REPORTS TO:Elementary Principal

DESCRIPTION:Elementary Seneca Language and Culture Teacher

DUTIES:

+ Collaborate with Native American Education Program Coordinator to implement and refine district developed curriculum to ensure cultural relevance and instructional effectiveness. (Elementary Programming may include pushing into classrooms and/or teaching within an independent classroom)

+ Monitor student progress

+ Maintain records for attendance, grades, cultural activity participation, and assist with reporting requirements for programs

+ Engage in professional learning with the Seneca language teachers

+ Participation in the teacher evaluation process

+ Attend regular school meetings including faculty meetings, Title VI meetings, Native American Education Programming planning meetings, etc.

+ Respect and honor cultural protocols (oral traditions, clan systems, ceremonial proceedings) within classroom dynamics and community relationships

? Completion of some form of post-secondary education resulting in a degree preferred

? Willingness to pursue a new Seneca Language and Culture Certification from NYSED

? Knowledge of the Native American Community is required
