Job Summary
The Urban League of Rochester seeks a creative, driven, and mission-aligned Business Development & Executive Marketing Specialist to play a critical dual role in supporting both the organization’s entrepreneurial services and its executive-level marketing and visibility initiatives. This full-time, on-site position is central to advancing the League’s mission of economic empowerment, equity, and community development.
Reporting to the Business Development Director, with a dotted-line relationship to the CEO Assistant Team of the Office of the President & CEO, the Specialist supports key programs including the Entrepreneur Assistance Center (EAC), and Minority/Women-Owned Business Enterprises (MWBE). The position also leads the development of branded communications and promotional materials for organizational priorities.
The role is divided between two primary areas of responsibility:
+ Business Development Support – Providing outreach, one-on-one technical assistance, and training coordination to help minority- and women-owned businesses launch, grow, and sustain their enterprises.
+ Marketing and Communications – Website support, designing flyers, event promotions, and digital content to support high-impact initiatives such as the Urban League’s yearlong 60th Anniversary campaign, Membership Campaign, Black Scholars Ceremony, the Interrupt Racism Summit, and core programming in housing, education, family services, and workforce development.
This role is ideal for a results-oriented professional with strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a passion for advancing economic opportunity within underserved communities. This is an in-person position located at the Urban League of Rochester headquarters.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Entrepreneurial Services (50%)
+ Support implementation of Entrepreneur Assistance Center (EAC) and MWBE services.
+ Conduct outreach and deliver community presentations to recruit program participants.
+ Provide 1:1 technical assistance to business clients on startup, expansion, and sustainability.
+ Coordinate business training events, workshops, and consultant sessions.
+ Maintain accurate files and submit timely program reports (monthly, quarterly, and annually).
+ Track client progress and ensure successful program outcomes.
+ Represent the Urban League at community events and networking opportunities.
Marketing and Commuications (50%)
+ Develop and maintain branded marketing materials (flyers, social media graphics, newsletters, presentations).
+ Ensure all marketing collateral adheres to Urban League brand standards.
+ Support marketing initiatives for high-profile events including:
60th yearlong Anniversary Campaign Activities
Black Scholars Ceremony
Membership Campaign
Interrupt Racism Summit
Housing, Workforce, and Education Programs
+ Assist with copywriting, social media posts, and layout/design of promotional items.
+ Create internal templates and design systems to enhance communication effectiveness.
+ Collaborate with staff across departments to support visibility and outreach.
Other Responsibilities and Duties
+ Maintain and submit required documentation to supervisor in a timely manner to ensure deadlines are met and to ensure effective program operation.
+ Complete monthly, quarterly and annual reports as required.
+ Attend/support Urban League of Rochester events and fundraising functions.
+ Positively represent the programs and the Urban League in the community.
+ Perform such duties as supervisor may assign.
+ Conduct outreach and recruitment efforts, including program orientations and community presentations.
+ Provide one-on-one technical assistance and consulting services to new and existing minority/women owned businesses.
+ Plan and coordinate group and individual trainings for minority and women owned business owners interested in expanding their businesses and those interested in starting a business.
+ Complete and maintain program files, records and reports to track and assure successful program outcomes.
+ Participate in additional training as required for effective program operation.
+ Work with consultants to coordinate activities, appointments and submission of consultant’s billings.
+ Attend community functions to support and advertise services
Requirements
+ Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field required.
+ 2+ years of experience in business development, marketing, or a nonprofit setting preferred.
+ Proficiency in Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams), and social media platforms. Experience supporting entrepreneurs or small business clients is a strong plus.
+ Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
+ Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask across competing deadlines.
+ Comfort working evenings and weekends as needed.
+ Demonstrated cultural competence and ability to work with diverse communities.
+ Reliable transportation is required.
