    Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.

     

    + Demonstrated ability to manage multiple cases concurrently.

    + Demonstrated experience in assessing the severity and urgency of assigned cases with the ability to aptly provide support, identify specific needs, and prioritize referrals and/or resources.

    + Demonstrated experience in launching a new support program or improving referral systems that align with both survivor needs and organizational missions.

    + Demonstrated experience in maintaining accurate, up-to-date records in secure databases or case management systems is essential. This includes intake notes, follow-up logs, and service documentation.

    + Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, social work, or a related field.

    + Experience in human services, particularly with victims of interpersonal violence.

    + At least two years of experience in victim advocacy.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + A master’s degree in social work, counseling, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).

    + Certification as an advocate through the National Organization for Victim Assistance ( NOVA ) or a comparable credentialing body.

    + At least two years of experience in victim advocacy within a higher education setting.

    + Familiarity with Title IX regulations, the Clery Act, and trauma-informed care principles.

    + Demonstrated ability to collaborate with law enforcement, legal, medical, and campus support services.

    Job Description

    The Victim Advocate will be responsible for providing essential support to victims of crime, ensuring they are informed of their rights and available services, and assisting them in navigating the criminal justice system. This includes providing written notifications regarding medical or emergency services, victim’s compensation, and referrals to social service agencies, all in compliance with Texas law.

    Job Duties

    + Providing trauma-informed advocacy for survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking, and other violent crimes.

    + Assisting a survivor throughout the judicial process, including, but not limited to, securing a protective order and providing comprehensive support during the entirety of the criminal proceedings.

    + Supporting survivors who report to UPD and those who report exclusively to the Title IX Office of Compliance.

    + Serving as a liaison between survivors and university resources, such as the Dean of Students’ Office and the Student Health Center.

    + Collaborating with Hays County Victim Services and Hays Caldwell Women’s Center to enhance community partnerships and referral networks.

    + Educating the campus community about rights, resources, and reporting options for victims of violent crime.

    + Assisting survivors in navigating law enforcement, medical, and judicial processes, if they choose to pursue these options.

    + Maintaining confidentiality in accordance with applicable laws and university policies.

    + Supporting a community with over 40,000 students, including over 9,000 students currently living on campus.

    + Collaborate with the Texas State University School of Social Work.

    + Must turn in a personal history statement and be able to pass a full background.

    + This position requires driving University vehicles.

    + Availability Requirement:This position requires flexibility in scheduling, including availability for occasional call-backs during evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed.
