Responsibilities:
GENERAL SUMMARY
We are in search of a human subject research specialist to help support and evaluate community-led efforts to launch lethal means education around New York State as part of a larger grant-funded study of the Firearm Safety for Suicide Prevention Workshop (FS4SP). Efforts will primarily be devoted to supporting statewide FS4SP launch with secondary efforts supporting new pilot initiatives focused on families of veterans, the firearm owning community, and faith communities.
Primary duties will include supporting & evaluating lethal means education and, supporting/evaluating new pilot initiatives. The employee will be able to select specific workshops and/or initiatives to support based on availability/appropriateness in a Time-as-Reported format.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Supporting Dissemination of FS4SP Workshops
+ Assists team members with planning and hosting FS4SP workshops and attracting attendees.
+ Assist the PI and research team in strategy development to ensure workshop success.
+ Tracks and records regulatory and other documents for the study
Evaluating Lethal Means Education Efforts
+ Becomes proficient in disseminating and collecting questionnaires to attendees at qualifying lethal means education events around New York State.
+ NOTE: May require travel to communities for in-person questionnaire distribution and collection.
+ Learns protocol and reporting processes
Supports New Lethal Means Education Initiatives
+ Supports the launch of pilot initiatives for families of veterans, NYS firearm owners, and NYS faith communities.
+ Under guidance of PI, helps support successful pilot launch.
+ NOTE: May require travel for “on the ground” logistical support (e.g., booking venues, preparing flyers, etc.)
Evaluates New Lethal Means Education Initiatives
+ Becomes proficient in the development and/or update of IRB protocols to evaluate new initiatives
+ Assists in recruitment and consenting, and/or data collection activities in support of these evaluation projects.
+ NOTE: Depending on the final protocol, this may require travel to pilot events for in-person research activities.
Data Management and Compliance
+ Tracks study protocol adherence and learn IRB and Sponsor reporting requirements
+ Assists with data entry and data cleaning.
+ Utilizes statistical software for basic data analyses under supervision of PI.
+ Maintains eligibility to participate in research involving human subjects including completing all required trainings.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
+ Associate's degree required Required
+ Equivalent combination of education and experience Required
+ Experience liaising with community organizations with a public mental health mission. Preferred
+ Experience supporting efforts for lay mental health support (i.e., without specialized mental health training). Preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
+ Experience with word processing and data analysis software Preferred
+ Knowledge and familiarity with communities in one or more of following New York economic development Economic Development Regions, North Country, Capital Region, Mid-Hudson, or Southern Tier. Preferred
