    Research and Development Specialist II 2nd Shift (Monday through Thursday 3pm to 2am)

    YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    This Production Genotyping position (Research and Development Specialist II – 2nd Shift: Monday through Thursday, 3:00 pm to 2:00 am) is responsible for collaborating with laboratory team members to ensure timely delivery of high-quality data. The role requires achieving and surpassing daily and weekly production Key Performance Indicator targets, ensuring strict adherence to safety and compliance policies, identifying and executing experiments that drive process and system improvements, as well as operating and maintaining automation equipment.

    The primary responsibilities for the **Research and Development Specialist II – 2nd Shift: Monday through Thursday, 3:00 pm to 2:00 am (Ankeny, Iowa)** include:

    + Meeting daily and weekly plant genotyping objectives;

    + Managing specialized laboratory technologies;

    + Participating in cross-functional work within multiple platforms and process areas;

    + Solving challenges and enhancing workflow efficiency;

    + Validating methods utilizing multiple data sources;

    + Applying specialized scientific techniques to conduct experiments and achieve process improvements;

    + Adhering to established protocols while operating and troubleshooting instrumentation;

    + Resolving issues using deductive reasoning within complex laboratory technologies;

    + Prioritizing and coordinating tasks within a large team, providing training to colleagues, and maintaining comprehensive records and documentation;

    + Ensuring commitment to safety and compliance with best practices and protocols;

    + Accurately performing a variety of experiments;

    + Demonstrating initiative to remain current with advances in relevant fields, individually or as part of a group.

    WHO YOU ARE

    Bayer is seeking candidates who meet the following requirements:

    Required Qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s or master’s degree in biology, Chemistry, Engineering, or other life science fields;

    + Valid driver's license (Driving record (MVR) will be reviewed and must meet guidelines based on the company's Risk Screening for Hiring Drivers);

    + Proficiency in digital technologies, including data analysis and visualization tools;

    + Experience with computerized workflow tracking systems (such as automated laboratory systems, warehouse inventory, shipping/receiving, pharmaceutical tracking, hospital/healthcare, food service, etc.);

    + Experience in experimental design and execution;

    + Familiarity with high-throughput laboratory automation;

    + Mechanical aptitude for operating and troubleshooting automated systems;

    + Demonstrated ability to overcome challenges, take initiative, and deliver high-quality results;

    + Adherence to established processes and safety protocols;

    + Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

    + Proven problem-solving skills in a collaborative environment;

    + Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and timelines while maintaining urgency and efficiency to support business objectives.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Minimum one year of experience in a high-throughput TaqMan genotyping or production environment (including post-undergraduate work in academia or industry);

    + Expertise in leveraging data for decision-making (e.g., analyzing production KPIs, guiding investigations, conducting risk assessments, and performing cost/benefit analyses);

    + Proficiency in organizing and developing specialized reports to meet dynamic business needs;

    + Experience in troubleshooting and maintaining laboratory instrumentation;

    + Background in workflow optimization through root cause analysis, Lean, 5S, or Six Sigma methodologies;

    + Proven ability to balance and prioritize business deliverables, personal development, and project assignments;

    + Capability to independently design, execute, interpret, and validate scientific experiments or methods;

    + Successful track record of communicating scientific data and laboratory matters to teams, partners, and stakeholders;

    + The ability to build networks and collaborate to drive innovation, continuous improvement, and solutions to complex business or scientific challenges.

    Additional Information:

    The posting will remain open through August 7, 2025.

     

    Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $56,420.40 - $84,630.60. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Other benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. If selected for this role, the offer may vary based on market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
