Position Summary: The 4D Modeling Specialist focuses on incorporating the construction schedule with the 3D building information model (BIM) to enable accurate sequencing analysis and project visualization. The 4D Modeling Specialist reports to the VDC Director and collaborates directly with project-level management teams, preconstruction teams, and marketing teams. This role provides technical expertise in 3D/4D BIM modeling, model-based coordination, and construction sequencing. The position involves daily onsite presence, guiding project teams and less experienced BIM staff in Navisworks Manage, Synchro 4D, Fuzor and other modeling platforms, while partnering with IT teams to maintain BIM process standards, technology support, and training. This position will be fully in person in Portland, OR or Seattle, WA.
Essential Responsibilities:
+ Serve as a technical advisor at the onsite field office, supporting BIM/4D modeling activities.
+ Participate in BIM setup, project standards development, and coordination processes.
+ Establish early data exchange standards with project teams to optimize BIM for scheduling, estimating, logistics, and other uses.
+ Develop and maintain standard model families and detail libraries for elements such as concrete, formwork, and construction equipment.
+ Facilitate coordination and technological collaboration between project teams, clients, architects, consultants, subcontractors, and fabricators.
+ Coordinate and manage BIM model families, leveraging Navisworks Manage, Synchro 4D, Timeliner, and Fuzor.
+ Run clash detection studies; generate reports, assign workflows, and manage resolution through to completion.
+ Proactively identify illogical sequences or “busts” within the construction schedule when developing and visualizing the 4D schedule.
+ Ensure construction geometry accuracy and model efficiency for field use.
+ Interface with field survey crews, providing visualization input and model-based layout support.
+ Maintain model libraries and create archived record models upon project completion.
Qualifications:
Position Related Skills
+ Advanced knowledge of Autodesk Navisworks Manage, including Clash Detection, Quantification, and Timeliner tools.
+ Proficiency in Synchro 4D, Fuzor, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), BIM 360, and other file-sharing platforms.
+ Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).
+ Experience with Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) methods and digital fabrication processes.
+ Have topical knowledge of project portfolio management (PPM) software used for planning, managing, and analyzing projects such as Primavera P6.
+ Ability to host, run, and document coordination meetings.
+ Experience in reading design documents, specifications, and survey data.
+ Highly developed visual observation, interpretation, and problem-solving skills.
+ Ability to communicate and present ideas effectively to various audiences.
+ Professional demeanor with the ability to work under pressure in a field construction environment.
+ Excellent time management, multitasking, and prioritization abilities.
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills; relationship building across diverse teams.
+ Flexibility to work extended hours or off-shift work to accommodate construction sequences.
Professional Experience and Education:
+ Four to seven (4-7) years' experience in architectural, engineering or construction (AEC) industry required.
+ Experience in the delivery of large, complex projects required.
+ High School diploma or GED required.
+ Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction, or related industry preferred.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
+ Must be able to remain in a stationary position in an office environment more than 50% of the time, with the occasional requirement to be able to access all areas and levels of construction site for work progress review.
+ Must be able to access work being done on multiple levels.
+ Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machines, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. Occasionally uses machinery and other tools to operate, activate, use, prepare, inspect, place, detect, and position materials.
+ Specific vision abilities include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus in an outdoor environment. Must be able to; visually inspect work, look for small defects, and small parts, and/or operate machines (including inspection); use measurement devices; and/or assemble or fabricate parts.
+ Must be able to safely operate a vehicle with a valid driver's license.
+ The worker is required to have the ability to perform duties such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; reading printed and digital documents.
+ Must be able to occasionally work in proximity to loud equipment. Must be able to wear hearing protection as necessary. Often required to communicate with customers and coworkers in an office setting and, on the phone/digital meetings.
