Position Summary...
What you'll do...
We are seeking a talented and passionate **Principal, Software Engineer** to join our International Technology Organization. The ideal candidate will have experience as a tech lead and strong development background in Micro Service Architectures, **Backend** and **Machine Learning** technologies and a proven track record of delivering high-quality scalable software. You will collaborate with our product team, in-house developers, data scientists and architects to design, develop, and enhance a reliable and easy-to-maintain backend and ML infrastructure.
About Team:
International Recommendations platform is a multi-tenant framework that powers the personalization experiences for Mexico, Canada, and other Walmart International sites. The team drives innovation in Machine Learning and Application Development to provide personalized results for our customers and drive business KPIs.
What You’ll Do
+ Guide and mentor a team of engineers through code reviews and design discussions.
+ Act as a technical authority, offering direction and expertise.
+ Drive adoption of coding standards, design patterns, and best practices.
+ Communicate effectively with peers and stakeholders.
+ **Hands-On Engineering:**
+ Spend your day writing and reviewing code.
+ Lead architecture and design discussions.
+ **Architectural Leadership:**
+ Lead the development and evolution of technical architecture aligned with business goals.
+ Design complex systems with a focus on performance, security, and scalability.
+ **Software Craftsmanship:**
+ Deliver high-quality code with strong unit testing and regular code reviews.
+ Champion continuous integration and operational excellence.
+ **Technical Documentation:**
+ Create clear, comprehensive documentation and presentations.
+ Ensure alignment with project scopes, milestones, and deliverables.
+ **Engineering Advocacy:**
+ Promote technical standards across the organization.
+ Foster a culture of learning, innovation, and mentorship.
+ **Project Leadership:**
+ Lead discovery phases of major projects.
+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define scopes and milestones.
+ **Cross-functional Collaboration:**
+ Work closely with Data Science, Product, QA, and DevOps teams.
+ Translate complex technical concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences.
+ **Innovation & Research:**
+ Stay ahead of tech trends and explore emerging tools and methodologies.
What you'll bring:
+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field and 12 years of experience in software engineering or Master's Degree in Computer Science or related field and 8 years of experience in software engineering
+ Advanced knowledge of complex software design, distributed system design, design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
+ Proficiency in Kafka, No SQL databases.
+ Excellent technical debugging and production support skills.
+ Experience with ML Platform and ML Ops methodologies.
+ Experience with designing and building Feature Store solutions that can support context-aware real-time ML inferencing.
+ Familiarity with public cloud technologies such as Azure and Google Cloud Platform.
+ Extensive experience in the design, development, and delivery of software products with a large user base.
+ Track record in an architect role with large-scale software development data-backed services and applications.
+ Excellent decision-making skills with the ability to balance conflicting interests in a complex and fast-paced environment.
+ Hands on experience with building micro-services and event driven architecture and distributed systems using appropriate design patterns.
+ Risk analysis methodologies - Cost Analysis; Business objectives; Classification of requirements; Domain Knowledge; User stories concepts; Functional / Non-Functional Requirements.
+ Coding standards and guidelines; Coding languages (E.g. Java, Python etc.), frameworks (E.g. Spring framework etc.), Platforms (E.g. Microsoft Azure, GCP etc.); Quality, Safety and Security (PCI etc.) standards; Emerging tools and technologies; Telemetry; CI / CD; Code Management Tools; SDLC

Live Better U is a Walmart-paid education benefit program for full-time and part-time associates in Walmart and Sam's Club facilities. The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00-$286,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
