Job Summary

To actively participate in the Infection Prevention Program, by supporting prevention activities and best practice measures.

Must have kowledge of data collection and analysis, navigation of system computer systems, problem solving, decision making, effective communication and conflict management skills. Ability to successfully work in an environment of high stress with rapidly changing priorities. Knowledge of human psychology with the ability to work with people in a very positive way under very difficult circumstances. Ability to evaluate and utilize interpersonal dynamics and effective communication styles to work with people in a very positive way under very difficult circumstances.

Responsibilities

+ Review lab results as a case finding mechanism for identifying both Healthcare Associated

+ Collect data for analysis of HAIs and perform data entry.

+ Collect and validate data items such as device days, patient days, device type, etc.

+ Assist with all surveillance activities and isolation management

+ Communicate infection prevention data to the Infection Prevention Committee, hospital leadership, environment of care committee, clinical Improvement committee, and specific units/departments as appropriate

+ Review externally generated reports such as state department of health reports, CMS Hospital Compare, Leapfrog, etc.

+ Collect environmental samples for culture or other testing related to infection prevention and control as directed by Director of Infection Prevention or Medical Director for Infection Prevention

Qualifications

+ Education: Registered Nurse or Medical Technologist Bachelor’s Degree or comparable degree, required.

+ Experience: Minimum of three years of healthcare experience, required. Minimum of three years of leadership experience OR Minimum of three years of infection prevention and control experience, if not certified, required.

+ Licensure/Certification:

+ Infection Control or Epidemiology certification, preferred.

+ If not certified, certification required within two and a half yrs after hire, required.

+ Current RN License if RN with no IP experience, required.

+ American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification for Med Tech with no IP experience, required.

+ Additional Skills (required):

+ Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing; understands and uses personal computer. Demonstrates analytical skills i.e. calculation of infection rates. Maintain membership in the Association of Professional in Infection control and Epidemiology at a state and national levels to provide opportunities for networking and education.
