**This position is a part time position and is approximately 20 hours/week.
Job Summary
Surgery scheduling specialists act as a liaison between patient and physician, schedules all surgeries and pre-operative tests, and counsels patients prior to surgery regarding financial responsibility.
Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Schedules procedures at facility along with any pre-procedure testing required.
+ Obtains precertification/preauthorization from insurance companies prior to surgery for each procedure and test.
+ Verifies patient eligibility and coverage for the procedure.
+ Discusses pre-operative testing and instructions with the patient, as directed by physicians.
+ Coordinates all business and clinical paperwork prior to surgery/procedure.
+ Responds to written and telephone inquiries from patient and carriers regarding planned surgeries.
+ Maintains communication among the physician, patient, insurance company, and hospital at all times.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Requirements and Qualifications
+ Associates degree preferred; HS diploma or GED required.
+ 4+ years medical office experience; orthopedic setting preferred.
+ 2+ years prior surgical scheduling experience preferred.
+ EMR experience required; MEDENT preferred.
Physical Demands
+ Position requires manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
+ Involves standing, sitting, and walking.
+ Team member will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 10 pounds; normal visual acuity and hearing are required.
