    Communications Publications Editorial Manager (HEA), Office of Communications and Marketing

    POSITION DETAILS

    The Office of Communications and Marketing oversees the development, implementation, and dissemination of the College’s official messages to both internal and external audiences. The role involves producing diverse content across multiple media, including storytelling, branding, and promotional activities. The Communications Editorial Manager reports directly to the AVP of Communications and Marketing.

     

    - Produce high-quality content on a weekly basis, including news articles, social media posts, press releases, speeches, and digital signage, ensuring consistency with college messaging and branding standards.

     

    - Oversee the editorial direction and production of monthly and quarterly publications, such as newsletters, magazines, brochures, and reports, managing workflows, timelines, and quality standards.

     

    - Collaborate with faculty, administrators, student representatives, and external creative partners to develop messaging aligned with communication objectives.

     

    - Ensure consistent application of branding standards, graphic identity, and editorial policies across all materials.

     

    - Manage production activities, including creating specifications, coordinating vendor services, and supervising the printing and digital dissemination processes.

     

    - Prepare and review high-priority communications, such as speeches for senior leadership, ensuring clarity, professionalism, and strategic messaging.

     

    - Stay informed of college news and achievements to produce timely, relevant content that highlights institutional successes.

     

    - Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and maintaining attention to detail and quality.

     

    - Collaborate with college departments, CUNY Central Communications, and external vendors to gather stories, align messaging, and uphold brand standards.

     

    - Manage and coordinate with freelance writers and college staff to support content development and delivery.

     

    - Perform related duties as assigned to support the College’s communication and marketing initiatives.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor's degree and six years' related experience required.

    CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

    Oversees implementation of communications programs and produces communications in all media to meet a variety of College needs

     

    - Provides creative direction for publications and marketing materials, such as catalogs, annual reports, brochures, direct mail packages, print advertising and other marketing materials

     

    - Works with College clientele (faculty, administrators, and student representatives) to understand their communications objectives, select appropriate messages, formats, and distribution methods, set production timelines, and establish appropriate editorial and design approaches

     

    - Provides creative direction and supervision to external and/or internal creative resources such as writers, photographers, illustrators and graphic designers

     

    - Ensures consistent application of standards and guidelines for College materials, such as graphic identity standards

     

    - Manages production activities, including creating printing specifications and arranging procurement of services, managing work flows, and production schedules, and assuring a quality finished product

     

    - Prepares sensitive and high-priority communications such as speeches for use by senior management

     

    - Performs related duties as assigned.

    COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

    Salary commensurate with education and experience $81,047-$102,485 (April 2024 contract).

     

    CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
