Description
Are you an experienced accounting professional looking to make an immediate impact while pursuing a long-term career opportunity? Our client in downtown Houston is seeking a Contract-to-Hire Staff Accountant to join their team. This position offers a unique opportunity to work with a dynamic organization while contributing to essential financial and operational processes.
Key Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will be responsible for a wide range of accounting duties, including but not limited to:
+ Banking and Deposits: Process all operating account deposits and execute daily banking procedures.
+ Accounts Payable (AP): Manage AP functions, including verifying invoices, expense reports, purchase requisitions, and processing weekly check runs while ensuring accurate recording in the general ledger.
+ Accounts Receivable (AR): Oversee AR functions such as applying payments, monthly invoicing, and reconciling customer accounts.
+ Journal Entries & Ledger Management: Prepare general ledger journal entries and monthly balance sheet reconciliations while maintaining the fixed asset and depreciation schedule.
+ Grant Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with grant agreements and classifications, and prepare timely and accurate grant reports.
+ Payroll Processing: Accurately process payroll while maintaining compliance and meeting reporting requirements.
+ Auditor Support: Provide required documentation to auditors and grant monitors to ensure seamless reviews.
+ Financial Reconciliation: Perform account analyses and bank reconciliations, identifying inconsistencies and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you’ll need:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
+ 2+ years of hands-on accounting experience, particularly in AP, AR, and payroll processing.
+ Proficiency in general ledger systems, reconciliation, and accounting software (experience with [specific platform, if applicable] a plus).
+ Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
+ Knowledge of grant compliance and reporting regulations is highly desirable.
