Girl Scouts San Diego is seeking a detail-oriented, analytical and results-driven Financial Analyst/Senior Accountant to join our finance team. As part of the largest girl-serving nonprofit in the country, Girl Scouts San Diego builds girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. Reporting to our Director of Finance, our Financial Analyst/Senior Accountant assists with the development of the council budgets, financial reporting, analysis, forecasts, and projections, while working collaboratively to complete month-end and year-end close, audits, budgets and timely financial reporting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Analysis & Budgeting
+ Assists Director of Finance by monitoring financial performance against budget. Analyzes and investigates budget variances in collaboration with budget managers. Makes recommendations to improve internal financial reporting and provides training to assist budget managers with budgeting/ fiscal responsibilities.
+ Supports Director of Finance by building analytical models utilizing both financial and non-financial data to forecast results.
+ Proactively and creatively obtains data and knowledge needed for modeling and develops, maintains, and improves complex Excel based and/or other system based financial models.
+ Works to support timely and accurate budget analysis, financial reports and trends to assist the CFAO and Director of Finance in decision making
+ Assists with the preparation of the council’s budgets including collecting and compiling departmental budget requests and providing data to Senior Management for decision making during budget process. Works with the CFAO and Director of Finance to develop and review budget assumptions that align with council strategy.
+ Assists with the development of budget templates, tools, processes, and training for managers.
+ Contributes to the preparation of materials for the budget presentation to the executive team and Board of Directors.
Month End Close and Financial Reporting
+ Prepares and/or reviews journal entries, reconciliations and financial transactions to support month end close process.
+ Assists with and makes recommendations for improving month end close through standardization of processes to improve accuracy and efficiency of reporting.
+ Supports the Director of Finance and CFAO with board committees by providing information, reports, and recommendations
+ Supports the council’s annual audit process and other audits, as necessary.
+ Assists in the design, development and maintenance of automated financial reports and dashboards for internal management.
+ Retrieves financial data from business systems used across the council and conducts analysis to confirm accuracy prior to import into accounting system.
+ Participates in special projects and performs additional ad-hoc duties as required.
+ Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related required or significant experience in lieu of education. CPA or CMA is a plus.
+ 3-5 years of progressive finance/accounting experience (nonprofit preferred)
+ Strong financial analysis, modeling, forecasting and reporting skills and experience
+ Comprehensive understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), theories and concepts
+ Experience and ability to use spreadsheets, financial systems and database software for financial analysis and reporting; knowledge of Questica/PowerPlan preferred; Financial Edge a plus.
+ Demonstrated technical skills in accounting and financial reporting
+ Demonstrated advanced proficiency in Excel
+ Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
+ Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy is essential.
+ Must possess a high level of professionalism and integrity with the ability to maintain confidentiality of information and data
+ Able to build and maintain strong professional relationships

Hiring Salary range: $70,000 - $75,000/annually, DOE
