The Mission of the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) is to protect and promote the health of all San Franciscans. SFDPH strives to achieve its mission through the work of multiple divisions - the San Francisco Health Network, Population Health, Behavioral Health Services, and Administration. The San Francisco Health Network is the City’s only complete system of care and has locations throughout the City, including Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, and over 15 primary care health centers. The Population Health Division (PHD) provides core public health services for the City and County of San Francisco: health protection, health promotion, disease and injury prevention, and disaster preparedness and response. Behavioral Health Services operates in conjunction with SFHN and provides a range of mental health and substance use treatment services.
Under general nursing and medical direction, utilizing standardized procedures, the 2328 Nurse Practitioner (Psychiatric Nursing) functions within an organized system for the delivery of health care in association with other members of the multidisciplinary health care team and performs specialized nurse practitioner duties in clinical settings. The patient population is racially and culturally diverse adults who may have an array of psychiatric, medical, and psychosocial issues, including comorbid substance use, homelessness and little or no income.
The 2328 Nurse Practitioner (Psychiatric Nursing) performs the following essential functions:
+ Provides a range of mental health services including psychiatric evaluations with medical histories, differential diagnosis, urgent care, crisis intervention and psychiatric medication evaluation, management, and monitoring
+ Works collaboratively with psychiatry, nursing, primary care, and psychosocial staff to coordinate and integrate multidisciplinary services for clients with complex psychiatric problems in inpatient or outpatient settings depending on hiring division
+ Provides holistic care for clients with psychiatric illnesses by obtaining health histories that include psychosocial, functional, and developmental data, order and interpret lab tests and other diagnostic studies when needed
+ Promotes wellness-oriented self-care, and coordinates with primary and specialized medical care as needed
+ Functions in a team approach, which requires skill and ability to provide cooperative and effective interactions with other staff
+ Provides psychiatric consultation and develops working relationships with other community agencies, collateral persons and others involved with clients served
+ Maintains and compiles electronic clinical records, billing, and other necessary paperwork in a timely manner to keep cases in compliance with all administrative regulations
+ Provides direct supervision to nursing students or other staff as assigned
+ Adheres to standards of practice in accordance with Site-Specific Protocols and Procedures
+ Participates in and/or facilitates supervision, attend staff meetings, clinical conferences, assigned committees and other required meetings
+ Organizing and facilitating Medication Groups and Wellness Activities as assigned and depending on the needs of the hiring division
+ Able to evaluate patients who are in crisis for a hold
+ Supports psychiatric care transitions; liaises with specialty mental health, inpatient and residential care teams
+ Individual and group therapy depending on the needs of the hiring division
+ Clinical case management depending on the needs of the division

Minimum Qualifications (Required)
+ LICENSE: Possession of a valid California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing; AND
+ LICENSE: Possession of a current medication furnishing license issued by the California Board of Registered Nurses; AND
+ CERTIFICATION: Possession of national board certification, or eligibility, as a Nurse Practitioner issued by one of the following recognized national certifying body or organization:

+ American Nurses Association – American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
+ Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (http://www.pncb.org/)

+ SPECIALTY AREA REQUIREMENTS: (Psychiatric Nursing)
+ CERTIFICATION: Specialization as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP); AND
+ EXPERIENCE: One (1) year (equivalent to 2,000 hours) of experience as a Registered Nurse on a psychiatric inpatient unit, psychiatric emergency service clinic or mental health center.

Assessment Component
Candidates that meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in a Training and Experience evaluation that is designed to measure the knowledge, skills, and abilities in job related areas that have been identified as critical for satisfactory performance in this position.

Candidates must achieve a passing score on the Training and Experience evaluation in order to continue in the selection process and will be placed on the confidential eligible list in rank order according to their final score.
