The RN Clinical Mentor functions primarily as an RN with additional duties. Takes responsibility for assigned patients during RN relief periods. Works collaboratively and educationally with other members of the patient care team to ensure optimal patient care. Takes responsibility for education and guidance of Registered Nurses regarding the nursing process, critical thinking, accountability for the plan of care and it's relation to patient outcomes, and communication/collaboration with all team members. Functions as a clinical expert, role model, mentor and resource in a designated practice area. Works collaboratively with the Charge Nurse, Educator and Manager of that area to develop a learning environment for the caregivers, as well as a service, outcome and care oriented environment for the patients.

*Required Certification/Registration:*

* Current California RN license required.

* Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

* Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider ACLS and BLS certification required

* NIHHS Stroke Certification within first six months of employment required.

* Must be able to speak, read and follow instructions in English. Excellent interpersonal skills.

**

*Experience/Specialized Skills:*

* Minimum three years experience in an acute care setting preferred.

* Minimum three years experience in the specialty area is strongly preferred.

* CCRN is strongly preferred

* Extensive cardiac care experience is strongly preferred

* Quick thinking and the ability to trouble shoot is strongly preferred
