    The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute has an exciting full time opportunity for a Scientist in the Department of Research in Miami, Florida.

     

    CORE JOB SUMMARYThe Scientist, SOM supports the University’s research goals and objectives by engaging in complex experiments and investigations in a range of areas, depending on specialty and interests. Moreover, an employee in this position contributes to the scientific community and promotes the University’s reputation as a leader in the field.CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

     

    + Oversees research employees, students, and other relevant staff.

    + Authors scientific publications, technical and agency reports, and patent applications.

    + Assists in the development of training materials for research staff.

    + Plans experiments and records and analyzes findings.

    + Prepares research proposals and funding applications.

    + Ensures that all activities are in compliance with applicable quality and regulatory standards.

    + Maintains current knowledge of relevant scientific and technical developments.

    + Presents ongoing work and findings to colleagues at academic conferences.

    + Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

    Department Specific Functions

    Department Specific Functions

    + Lead and support research initiatives integrating artificial intelligence and machine learning to address key challenges in ophthalmology, including disease classification, progression modeling, and biomarker discovery.

    + Develop and implement advanced computational tools for the analysis of large-scale ophthalmic imaging, visual field data, and multi-omics datasets.

    + Contribute to interdisciplinary projects involving glaucoma, aging, and neurodegeneration by designing data-driven experiments and collaborating with clinical and basic science teams.

    + Mentor trainees and junior staff in computational methods, data analysis workflows, and the application of AI in biomedical research.

    + Assist in grant proposal development, manuscript preparation, and dissemination of findings at national and international scientific meetings.
