    Position Title: Life Skills Trainer

     

    Are you passionate about helping young people gain the skills they need to thrive on their own? New Directions Youth & Family Services is looking for a Life Skills Coordinator to bring energy, creativity, and heart to our Residential Services team. In this role, you'll guide youth in developing essential life skills, everything from budgeting and cooking to finding a job and building confidence. You’ll design and lead hands on programming, support staff during activities, manage a work program, and connect with local organizations to create real world opportunities for our youth. You’ll also help them navigate things like opening bank accounts, getting IDs, and planning for life after care.     Pay and benefits

     

    + 120 hours of paid time off your first year, not including an additional 13 agency holidays.

    + Access to life, dental and medical insurance.

    + 401k with up to 3% agency matching.

    + $19.89 - $20.85/hr for your first year. Additional raises guaranteed for full time positions.

    + Monday - Friday, 11:00a - 7:00p schedule.

    Minimum Education and Skills

     

    + High school Diploma/GED(required).

    + Valid driver's license(required).

    Full Job Description Job Title: Life Skills Coordinator Department: Residential Services - North Title of Immediate Supervisor: Residential Treatment Team Director POSITION SUMMARY: Instructs youth and students in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth needed for the development and application of life skills in independent living in both the Residential Treatment Team program and the HGL Campus School alternative education program. RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: While youth are in the cottage: 1. Formulate and supervise a comprehensive Life Skills program for delivery to the residential youth of New Directions Youth and Family Services, Inc. Curriculum may include components already in use, teacher designed materials, commercially prepared materials. The Life Skills Instructor will obtain needed supplies and material. 2. Responsible for the overall supervision of all staff working with the youth during life skills programming. 3. Meets/consults with Supervisors and Residential Treatment Team Director to coordinate schedules. 4. Manage a Work Program including tracking of jobs, financial accounting and disbursements, and youth preparation. 5. Conduct initial and 6 month follow up Casey Life Skills assessments and document in electronic case record. 6. Facilitates the Youth Advisory Board. 7. Advisor to the Wildcat club. 8. Maintain records that document youth participation, areas addressed, hours of instruction and instructional activities to be documented in electronic case record. 9. Record and maintain observations of youth in a daily log. 10. Assist youth with opening checking and savings accounts on a case-by-case basis dependent on need. 11. Ensure annual credit checks are completed and documented. 12. Assist youth with acquiring appropriate identifications, driving permits, working papers and all other necessary forms. 13. Partner with local volunteer groups for interested youth. 14. Partner with local schools and sports leagues for interested youth. 15. Assist with aftercare planning in the area of life skills development. 16. Collaborate and participate with Youth in Progress (YIP) meetings/groups to provide additional life skills opportunities. 17. Attend the Annual Speak Out with interested youth. 18. Participate in weekly supervision, TCI, other committees and trainings as needed. 19. Maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and First Aid/CPR certification provided by the agency 20. Any additional duties assigned by immediate supervisor. SKILL, QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Minimum Education and/or Professional Qualifications/Skills  Degree preferred.  High school Diploma/GED required  Previous experience in childcare and life skills preparation preferred. Must be able to build appropriate, respectful relationships with youth, guide their development, manage unit/cottage effectively, participate in overall treatment plan, and be able to exercise common sense and professional judgment. Ability to pass annual physical for Category 3 job classification in accordance with New Directions Employee Health policy. 7. Must comply with Agency safety standards and be responsible for own actions and conduct concerning safety and healthy working conditions.
