*The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Institute for Genome Sciences (IGS)*is recruiting for a*Senior Bioinformatics Analyst*. The candidate will join the Fertig Lab. Elana Fertig, PhD, FAIMBE is the director of IGS and is internationally recognized for her work developing predictive models in cancer using spatial multiomics and mathematical tools. All employees are expected to work primarily physically within the State of Maryland. * *Primary Duties:* * Contribute to genomic research projects and scientific analysis of the data generated by those projects using a variety of databases and software applications. Generate, annotate, gather, or analyze data and prepare for further analysis, and research. * Following established procedures or specific scientific protocols, add value to data generated by genome sequencing projects through assembly, annotation, curation, and quality assurance. * Perform preliminary analysis of genomic data and format for use by other analysts or scientists. Integrate and analyze data from genome sequencing projects, functional genomics analysis, and other school of medicine research projects. * Organize genomic data with other relevant data types into databases, displays, or graphic presentations for publication and web presentations. * Participate in community outreach and training. * Performs other duties as assigned. *Education:*Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, including fields, i.e., Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or Bioinformatics. Master's degree in a related field is preferred. *Experience:*Six (6) years of genomic research experience with at least five (5) years' experience with Windows and UNIX-based operating systems and relational database management systems. *Supervisory Experience:*N/A. *Certification/Licensure:*N/A. *Other:*May require training related to occupational safety and health, environmental compliance, shipping of hazardous materials, and/or ionizing radiation. Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted. *Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:* Knowledge of position requirements. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently.
