The General Services Security Division is responsible for the safety and security of over 250 city government facilities and their employees and patrons. The division is staffed with employees responsible for access control, armed security, physical security, and administrative functions.
The Department of General Services is seeking a Physical Security Specialist for the Security Division. This position is responsible for providing technical administrative support for the City's security by overseeing the Central Monitoring Facility and providing technical expertise by assessing and planning the implementation of security systems and other security requirements.
Essential Functions
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
+ Provides technical and physical support for city facilities, security equipment and security systems.
+ Assists in developing physical security policies, procedures, and regulations for City facilities; Inspects, analyzes, and evaluates security systems.
+ Recommends facility physical security projects, programs, systems, etc.
+ Identifies vulnerabilities and threats to facilities based on a physical inspection of the site, discussion with key staff, and review of past incidents.
+ Assists in the planning, design, implementation, assessment, and improvement of security programs, including access control systems, digital video surveillance systems, CCTV (Closed-circuit television), building automation, and physical intrusion detection systems, in addition to information and decision-making systems.
Education/Experience
Required:
+ Four (4) years of experience supporting a physical security program.
+ Extensive knowledge of state-of-the-art security equipment and the latest technology.
+ Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
Preferred:
+ Three or more years of supervisory experience.
Additional Information & Requirements
Required:
+ Valid driver’s license (A DMV transcript dated within 30 days will be required if selected for hire).
+ Must successfully complete the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) Incident Command System ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 Certifications within one year of employment.
Preferred:
+ Complete Physical Security Specialist Certification within one year of employment.
+ Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services Armed Security Officer Certification within 6 months of employment.
+ Complete CPR Certification within three months of employment.
Work Schedule
+ Monday – Friday, 40 hours/week. 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Signing Bonus:
+ This position is eligible for a $5,000 signing bonus.
+ Regular full-time and permanent part-time employees may receive paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, employer paid pension plan, basic life insurance, voluntary participation in medical and dental, Section 457 deferred compensation, long-term disability, optional life insurance for self, spouse and children, medical and dependent care reimbursement plans, access to membership in credit union and employer provided parking.
+ Special project/grant employees are generally eligible for the same benefits of regular full-time employees; however, retirement, life insurance and participation in health plans vary depending upon funding and authorization.
+ Temporary/seasonal and part-time employees are generally only eligible for employer provided parking and access to membership in credit union.
+ Retirement
If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
+ The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply. The applicant’s school of enrollment must be an accredited institution.
