Description of Job
The Facilities Services work unit exists to plan, design, construct, operate, maintain and manage the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind (CSDB) facilities and campus according to all applicable standards in a manner that promotes a safe, sanitary and effective environment for students and staff and enhances the quality of life in CSDB facilities and on campus. The facilities managed by the Facilities Services work unit include 34 acres of land and 17 buildings comprised of 296,484 square feet.
Facilities Maintenance
Generate and complete preventive maintenance and work requests efficiently utilizing the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Complete work in a professional and timely manner
General duties include carpentry, roof inspection/maintenance/repair, furniture repair, construction, window glazing/repair, tile, painting, lock and key maintenance, door and hardware maintenance, access control maintenance and building automation control maintenance.
As an essential employee, reports early as necessary to remove snow and ice from walkways, entryways, sidewalks, parking lots by using snow removal equipment including truck w/plow, snow blowers, walk-behind brushes, snow shovels, etc. Apply salt and / or sand on walkways to ensure safe walking conditions. May be required to work extended school / work hours and / or days as directed to support campus needs. Exposed to adverse working, climate, and weather conditions.
Moving furniture and performing special setups including setting up chairs, tables, audio and video equipment, temporary stages for events, meetings, and in-services, etc. Responsible for ensuring event set-up and teardown is completed with accuracy, and in a timely manner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience Only:
Four (4) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position
OR
Education and Experience:
A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to four (4) years.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Locksmith experience
+ Roof maintenance and repair experience
Special Qualifications:
Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force. This position requires heavy lifting (following appropriate safety requirements).
• Knowledge of and ability to assess and apply technology to perform the requirements of the position; ability to effectively utilize a variety of computer software applications, which may include but is not limited to e-mail, Internet, word processing, electronic calendar, presentation development, spreadsheet, database, etc.; willingness to stay current and develop skills as needed with or without direct support from CSDB.
• Ability to respond effectively and positively to feedback; ability to participate effectively in team setting and to work independently; strong interpersonal and communication skills; effective organization skills; effective problem-solving skills.
• A courteous, professional, and helpful attitude in the role of CSDB representative.
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) at the NOVICE skill level, or applicants must be willing and able to attain proficiency at that level within a specified period of time, as demonstrated by an appropriate assessment tool and according to school policy / procedures
