Physician Assistant: Thoracic Surgery - Saratoga Springs, and Malta, New York

Compensation: $124K - $158K (Our compensation structure is tiered by years of experience.)

Saratoga Hospital Medical Group - Thoracic Surgery seeks a Physician Assistant for a full-time position to join an experienced Thoracic Surgeon in our expanding, recently-opened practice, at 8 Medical Park Drive, Malta.

The Physician Assistant in this role will rotate between inpatient and outpatient medicine. When in hospital (Saratoga Hospital), act as a Surgical Assistant, perform consults or follow-up care for patients on hospital units and in ICCU. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to collaborate with other members of the healthcare team. In our practice, you will work with colleagues from the hospitalist team, pulmonary medicine and other referring physicians of our community, nursing, respiratory care professionals and multidisciplinary team members. The provider can expect approximately three outpatient clinic days.

Our spacious, state-of-the-art 19-bed ICCU is now 10 years old. It was part of a $34 million expansion project that includes a 12-Operating Room surgical suite. Support services for thoracic surgery include: Endobronchial Ultrasound, respiratory care, the cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation program, pulmonary lab, laboratory services, advanced medical imaging, radiation oncology, da Vinci robotic surgery and more. The hospital offers advanced imaging and laboratory services and more, at ambulatory centers in Saratoga Springs and Malta.

Hours for this position will be: 8:00 - 4:30, Monday - Friday. Some weekends may be required.

Call responsibility for this position will include: sharing call with surgeon, frequency to be determined between provider and surgeon.

The practice is conveniently located in Saratoga Medical Park at Malta at Exit 12, with many amenities and eateries nearby, sharing a suite with other specialty practices including Pulmonary Medicine, Endocrinology and Sports Medicine, adjacent a YMCA. Our Regional Therapy Center is located downstairs offering PT, OT, Speech and aquatic therapy, as well as a primary care practice.

The Physician Assistant serves as an additional patient care provider, augmenting and extending patient services provided by the health care team. The PA will work closely with members of the team and have a reasonable amount of autonomy in the care and medical decision-making for patients. A few highlights of responsibilities:

• Obtains, documents and updates medical history. Identifies health risks and needs. Performs physical examinations and conducts preventive screening procedures based on age and history. Formulates a differential diagnosis and plan of care based on history, physical examination, and clinical findings. Identifies needs of the individual, family, or community. • Orders and review diagnostic tests. Identifies, prescribes, and manage pharmacological therapies. • Determines effectiveness of the plan of care through documentation of patient care outcomes. • Reassesses and modifies plan of care as necessary to achieve medical and health goals. • Makes referrals to other health professionals and community agencies. Admits/discharges to appropriate service. • Participates in team meetings and conferences to enhance an interdisciplinary approach to health care delivery. • Serves on departmental and multidisciplinary committees, which influence or determine policies affecting advanced practice providers. • Participates in and develops projects and quality improvement programs, as well as standards of care and practice. • Maintains current level of knowledge relative to professional practice. • Maintains all required professional documentation, such as license, certifications, infection control, ACLS/BLS, DEA as well as system requirements. • Acts as resource to staff and implements educational programs, as needed.

Qualifications:

Experience in surgical assisting is required. A license to practice as a Physician Assistant in New York State will be required to successfully be credentialed.
