Description
Ready to lead a team that keeps clean, safe drinking water flowing to thousands of people every day?We’re looking for aWater Operations Supervisorto join us in the critical mission of delivering reliable water to our community while protecting public health and the natural environment.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll oversee a skilled team responsible for operating and maintaining 11 treatment facilities, including 18 groundwater wells, a 10 MGD conventional treatment facility, a 5 MGD microfiltration facility, and a 1 MGD ultrafiltration facility. It’s a unique opportunity to blend technical expertise and leadership, making a tangible impact daily by safeguarding water quality and ensuring regulatory compliance with primary drinking water regulations.

The Day to Day
+ Operations:Operate and maintain a variety of water treatment and distribution system equipment, including pumps, motors, filtration systems, chemical feed systems, and water quality analyzers. Utilize SCADA to monitor system performance and make/recommend process adjustments as needed. Serve as Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) for specific water treatment facilities.
+ Regulatory Oversight:Oversees sampling, water quality monitoring, and compliance reporting to regulatory agencies (e.g., CDPHE). Ensures adherence to the Safe Drinking Water Act and Colorado Regulation 11 and its related rules and policies (e.g., Surface Water Treatment Rule, Groundwater Rule, etc.).
+ Operational Decision-Making:Makes decisions impacting water treatment and delivery systems, including in emergencies. Evaluates process data, adjusts operations, and directs SCADA systems to maintain water production and quality standards.
+ Maintenance:Coordinates and/or performs corrective maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and process issues with pumps, valves, chemical feed systems, instrumentation, and SCADA/PLC control systems.
+ Process Improvement:Identifies and implements opportunities for efficiency and process optimization. Participates in design review, capital project projecting and planning, and system upgrades.
+ Reporting and Documentation:Prepares regulatory and internal reports, including Monthly Operating Reports (MORs), Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs), inspection and QA/QC logs, and other compliance documentation in accordance with Colorado Regulation 11.
+ Team Leadership:Assigns, schedules, and supervises daily work for up to 6 direct reports. Coaches, mentors, and evaluates staff performance; initiates performance management when needed.
+ Project and Budget Management:Manages assigned projects, monitors expenditures, and provides input on budgetary and staffing needs. Participates in procurement and contractor selection processes.
+ Emergency Response:Serves as on-call supervisor for after-hours incidents and alarms involving water quality or system performance.
Qualifications
+ Education/Experience:At least four years of technical experience in a water treatment and/or distribution system utility operations or a bachelor’s degree in an environmental field and two years of management experience is required.
+ Knowledge:Experience with applicable policies, procedures, rules, and regulations pertaining to water treatment (e.g., Federal Safe Drinking Water Act, Colorado Regulation 11 and Colorado Regulation 100) is preferred. Knowledge of and experience with materials, methods, techniques, and equipment used in the operation and maintenance of water pumping, production, storage, disinfection, and treatment systems, including SCADA system operations and water quality analyzers is preferred.
+ Licenses:State of Colorado Water Treatment Class A certification and State of Colorado Water Distribution Class III certification required within first one year of employment, or ability to work towards these certifications once eligible to test.
+ Leadership:Two years leading, developing, and coordinating people in a team-based environment. Experience directing day-to-day work, organizing, managing staff performance, and coordinating schedules.
+ Technology & Equipment:Working knowledge of SCADA operations, water quality analyzers, and water treatment equipment such as pumps, motors, control valves, etc. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and collaboration tools such as SharePoint is preferred.
+ Data:Ability to interpret water quality and regulatory compliance data. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including creating spreadsheets, inputting data, utilizing formulas, building charts and graphs, and building/utilizing historian reporting queries for regulatory compliance reporting is preferred.
+ Communication:Skilled in written and verbal communication, including the ability to generate regulatory reports and correspondence.
Schedule
The Water Operations Supervisor will work 8 hours per day, Monday – Friday. Must be willing to work overtime, holidays, and weekends as necessary. Must be willing to work on-call shifts in a seven-day rotation. When on-call, you must be able to respond at all times to support the Water department.
Salary Range
The pay range for this role is $97,718 - $146,556. Starting range depends on qualifications but generally falls within the minimum and midpoint of the pay range.
