    Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) plays an integral role in the success of Michigan Medicine by providing clinicians, educators, researchers, students, and staff with exceptional technology-related information, products, services, and support.

     

    The Academic IT (AcadIT) division in Health Information & Technology Services (HITS) serves both the education and research communities at the University of Michigan Medical School (UMMS). We engage faculty, students, and staff to provide a holistic portfolio of software and applications, infrastructure, device support, and custom projects, promoting innovation and excellence. AcadIT is comprised of three areas that work in concert to provide support: 1) Application Services - focused on product management and support for vendor applications; 2) Software Delivery - focused on building custom applications when a vendor solution is not available and offering secure application environments; 3) Technical Services & Engagement - focused on providing support for high-performance computing, device management, data integration, and scientific programming and engagement and outreach with our customers.

    Job Summary

    We're seeking a motivated and creative Senior Business System Analyst (BSA) to join our Platform Solution Development team within Health Information Technology and Services (HITS).

     

    The ideal candidate for this position should be dedicated, passionate, and possess the creativity and flexibility to discern customer needs, address ambiguities, and think innovatively to solve technical challenges.

     

    Provides technical and functional support to users, helping them work efficiently and expanding platform capabilities for broader business needs. Responsibilities include conducting audits, providing project support, performing administrative tasks, and requiring strong communication skills. The role involves managing the Symplectic platform, including data cleaning and development oversight, while collaborating with colleagues, technical staff, customers, and other stakeholders.

    Responsibilities*

    + Analyzes business and user needs; documents functional requirements; identifies and resolves dependency and integration issues across product and service areas.

    + Develops requirement design documentation for new applications or modifications to existing applications; identifies areas for improvement and recommendations for enhancements.

    + Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the technical and business environments to effectively troubleshoot issues, support API integrations, and recommend system improvements.

    + Understand available data and guide teams in accessing or modifying it appropriately.

    + Create user-friendly communications, training materials, and documentation to help users understand the system, its purpose, and how to use it effectively.

    + Support project planning, coordinate tasks, mitigate risks, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of upgrades and expanded functional enhancements.

    + Manage and route incoming issues, providing daily operational and tier-three support by coordinating with teams, support groups, and vendors to ensure timely resolution.

    Required Qualifications*

    BSA Senior Requirements:

    + Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    + 5+ Years of IT related experience.

    BSA Intermediate Requirements:

    + Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    + 2-3 Years of IT related experience

    Desired Qualifications*

    + Excellent communication skills with experience in a customer service environment, developing user communications, and training materials.

    + Ability to work with a team, collaborate across organizational boundaries, and work with others to accomplish goals.

    + Business analysis experience, including working with users and customers to understand needs and document requirements.

    + Data analysis experience and ability to understand data models and data flows.

    + Experience managing or coordinating projects, managing the work of others, risk management, and communication.

    + Technical support experience including troubleshooting, incident resolution, and root-cause analysis.

    + Experience using or supporting application systems.

    + Demonstrates ability to conduct root-cause analysis for problems of varying levels of complexity. Can understand and articulate business and technical concepts.

    + Demonstrates ability to apply knowledge from new business domains with demonstrated critical thinking skills.

    + Demonstrates willingness and a strong aptitude to learn new technologies, understand technical information, and communicate it to others using clear, concise, and user-friendly language.

    + Flexibility and adaptability to a changing environment, including the ability to manage under deadline pressure, ambiguity, and changing priorities.

    + Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with those with differing opinions and levels of understanding. Utilizes effective strategies and materials to foster consensus among diverse opinions.

    + Respects diversity: demonstrates respect for and seeks the opinion of others; trusts and values each person's contributions to the team; develops smooth, cooperative working relationships.

    + Experience using ServiceNow or other ticketing systems.

    + Experience vendor management and procurement processes.

    + Experience with application configuration and support.

    + Experience with Symplectic Elements.

    + Experience with Visual Studio, VB.Net, and Report Builder.

    + Experience with Power BI.

    + Experience with Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).

    + SSAS (SQL Server Analysis Services) and SOA (Service-Oriented Architecture).

    This position is being made available with the ability for you to negotiate alternative work schedules and remote to suit your work-life balance.     Background Screening
