    Job Summary

    The University of Michigan School of Information (UMSI) is looking for someone with technical expertise in the git and server management to serve as a part-time Lecturer I in our residential program. The successful candidate will join the teaching team as a secondary instructor for SI 504: Servers, the Shell, and Git for both Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 semesters. This is a 1.5 credit course that introduces students to common tasks completed in the shell including: executing standard linux commands, interacting with package management systems, and utilizing git for version control. Students will use git for individual and collaborative work, with emphasis on handling merge requests and branches. This will be a part-time position starting 8/25/2025 and ending 4/30/2025. As a secondary instructor the successful candidate will assist the primary instructor in developing and editing materials for the course, delivering content to students, and providing student assessments (grading and feedback). Applicants must be available for in-person instruction.

    Responsibilities*

    As a Lecturer at UMSI, you will be a secondary instructor in the teaching team for SI504: Servers, The Shell and Git. In this role, you will be expected to coordinate with the teaching team for this course, work with the teaching team to develop and edit materials for the course, deliver course content to students, participate in assessment and feedback processes for students, and respond to school and teaching team communications. You will also work collaboratively with primary instructors, other instructional team members, and UMSI staff (who help with administration and student advising/life functions) to ensure that students receive an excellent education and are aware of support services in the larger UM and UMSI communities. Coordination with other members of the instructional team to ensure daily/evening/weekend coverage for students will be expected.

    Required Qualifications*

    + Bachelor's degree in Data Science or a related field, such as Information, Computer Science, or Statistics

    + Technical skills in git, server management, and other subjects related to the course

    + Experience teaching in a higher education context

    + Deep interest in improving pedagogy and collaboration to perform instructional best practices

    Desired Qualifications*

    + Master's degree in Data Science or a related field, such as Information, Computer Science, or Statistics

    + Demonstrated excellent teaching skills

    + Current participation in professional associations
