    Job Summary

    The University of Michigan Law School is seeking to hire a clinical professor primarily in the Zell Entrepreneurship Clinic (ZEC), with the possibility of teaching in other transactional clinics at the Law School. Depending on experience and in accordance with the Law School's Standards for Appointments for Faculty Teaching in Clinics, the applicant may start as a clinical assistant professor or a clinical professor.

    The ZEC represents entrepreneurial ventures led by University of Michigan (UM) students and

    alumni as well as local non-UM ventures. Typical matters include incorporation, privacy, financing, intellectual property, employment law, and other common early-stage legal issues. The successful candidate will teach in the ZEC's biweekly seminar, supervise law students as they advise clients, work with other schools and organizations at the University of Michigan in assisting startups, engage in client development activities, and participate in the law school's academic community, such as by attending and giving talks to the faculty, participating in academic conferences, and participating in the governance of the Law School.

    Required Qualifications*

    ZEC candidates must have a minimum of three years of experience in at least one of ZEC?s core areas of practice, a strong interest in clinical teaching, a demonstrated commitment to engage in public interest lawyering through transactional work, and potential for excellence as a clinical teacher, which includes making a substantial contribution to the academic or professional legal community. Candidates must hold a J.D. degree and be eligible for licensure in Michigan.

    Additional Information

     

    This is a full-time contractual appointment that can lead to a long-term clinical contract. Clinical faculty have 9-month academic year appointments and are eligible for summer financial support for case coverage, special projects, and writing. They have governance rights that closely parallel tenure and tenure-track faculty. Michigan's faculty salaries and benefits are extremely competitive.
