Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Technical Writer to join our team. This role is pivotal in developing and managing the operator technical manuals for the U.S. Army in strict accordance with applicable regulations and standards, including MIL-STD-400051-2B/D, MIL-HDBK-1222G and MIL-HDBK-2361E. This candidate will also be responsible for coordinating work with junior technical writers. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional project management skills, a deep understanding of technical writing within a government contract framework, and experience with Interactive Authoring Display Software (IADS).

Requirements
Essential Functions:
+ Project Management: Oversee documentation projects from inception to completion, including planning, scheduling, resource allocation, and risk management. Ensure timely delivery of high-quality technical documentation that meets contract requirements.
+ Technical Documentation: Create, author, and manage comprehensive technical manuals, guides, training packages and documentation for U.S. Army projects, ensuring compliance with MIL-STD-400051-2B/D, MIL-HDBK-2361E and other relevant standards.
+ Standards Compliance: Ensure all technical documentation adheres to applicable military and government regulations and standards. Stay updated on changes in standards and regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.
+ Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of technical writers, providing guidance on best practices, standards, and project requirements. Foster a collaborative environment to drive successful project outcomes.
+ Stakeholder Communication: Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs), engineers, illustrators and other stakeholders to gather and verify technical information. Act as a liaison to ensure clear and effective communication throughout the documentation process.
+ Quality Assurance: Review and edit documentation for accuracy, clarity, and completeness. Implement and enforce documentation standards and best practices to maintain high-quality outputs

Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (as demonstrated through experience, training and/or testing)
+ Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in technical writing, with a proven track record of creating technical manuals for government contracts. Must be familiar with layout, design and structure of Organizational, Intermediate and Depot level Technical Manuals (TM's)' including Operation and Maintenance, Theory of Operation, Fault Isolation Procedures, and Illustrated Parts Breakdowns (IPB's). Experience with:
+ Developing and editing Extensible Markup Language (XML) content
+ Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformation (XSLT)
+ MIL-STD-40051
+ MIL-HDBK-1222G
+ MIL-HDBK-2361E
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree or certifications in project management or technical writing is a plus.
Experience:
+ Project Management Skills: Demonstrated expertise in managing documentation projects, including planning, execution, and delivery. Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies.
+ Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of technical concepts and terminology. Experience with authoring tools (e.g., Adobe FrameMaker, Microsoft Word, XML, and Arbortext) and documentation management systems.
+ Leadership Abilities: Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of technical writers, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
+ Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
+ Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate and high-quality documentation.
Background Prerequisites:
+ Must undergo and meet company standards for background check, employment verification, reference checks and controlled substance testing.
+ All employment at ARV is contingent upon the ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance if the position requires it.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Operational and maintenance background in DoD Systems.
+ Training development experience on military systems.
+ Technical experience in operating and/or maintaining military systems.
+ Authors technical documentation in XML for IADS integration a plus.
+ User-level experience with Military Technical Manuals.
+ Experience with graphic development tools to include photos and line art.
+ Experience with CREO
+ Working experience with content management systems such as Team Center
