    Job Title: Senior Counsel – Regulatory & EHS

     

    Summary:In this highly visible and challenging position, you will be responsible for providing legal support on a broad range of environmental, health and safety (EHS), sustainability, and product stewardship matters. Responsibilities include regulatory requirements for waste management, release reporting, water & air pollution control, environmental remediation, occupational health and safety, transportation, environmental litigation, chemical regulation, and hazard communications.

     

    You will work closely with executives and staff within the EHS, Manufacturing, Quality, and Product Stewardship organizations, as well as the business units, to provide guidance on regulatory matters. With a global scope, this role works with the global legal team on strategic initiatives and issues of global significance while also focusing on US domestic and international environmental and chemical regulatory legal matters.

     

    Other areas of focus include EHS/Regulatory support for transactional due diligence (including corporate mergers and acquisitions), EHS audits and compliance assurance, compliance training for leaders, and related support for legislative advocacy/government affairs.

    Responsibilities Include:

    + Drive the continuous development of the legal function’s relationship as a key business partner to regional management, business, and functional teams to help ensure that the businesses act and operate within the law and Company policy.

    + Provide advice and support on legal and regulatory issues relating to multiple areas, including EH&S, Operations, Product Stewardship, Corporate Sustainability, Quality, and Business Development.

    + Understand and communicate general legal requirements impacting the Company and the chemical industry, applicable laws, and advise on implementing practical solutions. Advise the Company and functions on complex legal regulatory questions and risk management in regulated applications, including medical devices, cosmetics, and food contact materials.

    + Assist in the development of policies and procedures associated with compliance and best practices, including process improvements, legal guidance documents, and training materials.

    + Provide legal advice on a wide variety of commercial transactions, including contracts with consultants and suppliers, and quality agreements with customers. Collaborate with EHS in the implementation of EHS audits, Responsible Care® programs, sustainability initiatives, ISO certification process, and similar activities.

    + Collaborate with business leaders on major projects, such as the development of new Company facilities and acquisitions or divestitures, including permitting, due diligence, and environmental assessments.

    + Assist in assessing the impacts on Company operations of relevant legislative and regulatory developments and in evaluating potential advocacy strategies.

    + Engage and oversee outside counsel as needed, with the objective of optimizing the internal and external legal spend, considering the magnitude of risk and consequences.

    + Support the General Counsel on other matters as requested

     

    Travel: Less than 25%

    Qualifications:

    The following are required for the role

    + Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and active membership in good standing with a U.S. state bar.

    + Substantial experience with multinational law firms and/or multinational corporations

    + D emonstrated ability to exercise sound business judgment and provide practical legal solutions across a wide range of regulatory matters.

    + Proven success leading and collaborating with cross-functional, multi-stakeholder teams to address complex legal and operational challenges.

    + Strong aptitude for quickly understanding technical and regulatory issues related to chemical manufacturing, product stewardship, and global compliance requirements.

    + Deep knowledge of U.S. environmental and chemical control laws, including the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, and TSCA.

    + Experience advising on environmental remediation obligations under Superfund and comparable state-level programs.

    + Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts clearly and effectively.

    + Highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.

    + Demonstrated growth mindset and adaptability in navigating global legal and regulatory landscapes.

    + Uncompromising integrity, professionalism, and a strong commitment to excellence in legal practice.

    The following are preferred for the position:

    + BS or higher degree in a relevant technical field, such as chemistry, environmental science, or engineering

    + Experience with a practice supporting a broad range of regulatory matters

    + International experience in EHS and/or chemical control laws and regulations

    + Government affairs/advocacy experience

    What We Offer:Base Pay Range: $132,000 - $193,600

     

    The actua l salary offered i s determined by factors including but not limited to education, experience, skill set s, and geography. Local geographic pay differentials may not be reflected in the above pay range and will be discussed with you by a member of the HR team when applicable .     Additionally, this role is eligible for incentive or sales variable compensation payments. The amount of these incentives is based on the terms of the Company's incentive plans, the Company's financial performance, and/or individual employee job performance.
