    Duration: 12+ months contract with potential extends or Convert

    Job Description:

    + The construction manager is responsible for the project’s success from a field level.

    + CM’s spend more time at their computer then in the field they are the quarterback of the project in the field.

    + They are the bridge between the field and the Project Manager.

    + 70% office and 30% field on average in this position.

    Responsibilities:

    Preconstruction

    + Know your contract documents (READ THEM)

    + Know the contractor SAFETY PLAN (READ IT)

    + This document is how we manage the contractor for safety

    + If something seems to be missing or not correct work with Safety to fix

    Kickoff Meeting

    + Let the contractor know the expectations for the job

    + Site Specific Orientation (contractor should host this and should attend)

    + You should read and know the permits, road use agreements, crossing agreements,

    + SWPPP, haul routes, drawings, material, schedule, QA/QC, Submittals to engineering for review

    + Set expectations, lead, and train the team

    + Site Safety Orientation

    + Site Specific Safety Plan (Read it)

    + Fill out Safety Assessments / CIL’s (unifier)

    + Reporting (collect your own data, do not Rely on Contractor for information)

    + Documentation (include in Weekly report to CM)

    + QA/QC (Unifier)

    + Site Photo’s

    Construction

    + Develop a good relationship with the contractor (if possible)

    + Be engaged in the project

    + Safety (keep them safe)

    + Quality Project (know the specs and drawings) (rework increases Safety Risk)

    + Know the schedule (C1 and Contractor P-6)

    + Track progress, Approve the CSU (project Tracking Spread sheet needs to be accurate)

    + Monitor the environmental constraints before/during work activities (SWPPP)

    + Stay involved in outage/ crossing coordination (don’t leave it up to the contractor only)

    + Contractor are both responsible for the success of the project, to have zero injuries and meet the schedule with a quality product

    Reporting

    + Needs to collect their own data (do not rely on contractor information, this can be misleading)

    + Reports must be 100% accurate as this information is shared up the management chain all the way to the executive VP

    + Manage the team to help gather all the information need to report accurately.

    + The data that is being gather may need to be used in change order disputes

    + If the documentation is not accurate or missing, company will be paying the BILL

    + Communication with PM important (when help is needed, they need to know the background story to help)

    + Reports/ Trackers are due on Fridays by End of Day 5pm project time

    + Managing Addition Resources

    Environmental

    + Utilize the environmental team

    + 3rd party audits of contractor

    + Resource for information and questions

    + Use to keep the contractor honest environmentally.

    + Environmentalist’s do not run the job or crews, any communication between Environmentalist and the contractor should not happen directly.

    + This should be directed through the CM.

    + ISC / expeditor

    + Material manager

    + Helps manage the delivery schedule of material

    + Can find missing material / work with vendors to improve

    Experience:

    + Utilize their knowledge to solve problems.

    + There are SME’s for each discipline Civil, Structural, Construction, Electrical, and Etc.

    + Utilize their knowledge of safety / great resource.

    + Utilize to improve safety through conversations and CIL’s, if contractor will not abide by safety rules (get them involved)

    Skills:

    + Utilize land agents for planning, difficult landowners, information about landowners and land agreements

    + Land agents do not run the job or crews, any communication between land agent and the contractor should not happen directly. This should be directed through the CM.

    + These are the minimum expectations of a construction manager.

    + The Construction Manager may have additional tasks to perform

    Education:

    + Bachelor’s Degree
