Job Description

Job Summary:

The Writing Fellow/Academic Support Coordinator—English Foundations addresses the need for personalized instruction and holistic support programs for multilingual students across the curriculum. Primary responsibilities include directing the English Foundations support program in the Tutoring Center, including recruiting, mentoring and educating peer tutors; drafting and implementing policies and procedures; and collecting and analyzing assessment data. This position is also responsible for planning and implementing academic support initiatives to increase success for students in underrepresented populations in collaboration with faculty and Academic Support colleagues, with a special focus on supporting students whose strongest language is a language other than English. In addition to supporting students in English for Academic Purposes, Reading, and English courses, this position supports faculty in adopting inclusive approaches to teaching, assessing, and supporting multilingual students.

Salary Range:

The salary range for this position is $25.29 - $36.71 hourly.

Minimum Qualifications:

+ A bachelor’s degree in English or a relevant field **OR** at least 2 years’ experience tutoring writing in a higher education setting

Preferred Qualifications:

+ A master's degree in English or a relevant field.

+ Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, religious, gender identity, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of college students, staff, and faculty.

+ Experience working with students with disabilities and ability to apply universal design principles.

+ Expertise in language acquisition.

+ Prior administrative experience in an academic support center.

+ Familiarity with writing research methodologies and anti-racist research methodologies.

+ Successful college classroom teaching experience.

+ Proficiency in Somali, Hmong, Spanish, or another language commonly spoken in Saint Paul.
