PURPOSE:
CareFirst is seeking a dynamic and experienced Sr. ERP Software Engineer focused on the Procurement space to join our growing internal technology talent pool. This role is pivotal in supporting and optimizing current SaaS based procurement platforms (SAP Ariba), while also leading the transition and readiness efforts as CareFirst evaluates and adopts a next generation SaaS based ERP solution across Finance, HR, Procurement, and EPM.
The ideal candidate will bring hands on engineering, integration, and architecture experience in procurement systems while collaborating cross functionally with internal IT teams, procurement operations, vendors, and transformation leaders. The role requires technical depth, business process acumen, and strategic foresight to position CareFirst for long term ERP success.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
+ System Support & Optimization: Serve as the lead technical resource for SAP Ariba core modules (Sourcing, Contracts, SIPM, Buying, Invoicing, Executive Summary, Contract Orders/Terms). Provide hands-on support for issue resolution, enhancement design, and integration improvements with downstream systems (e.g., Oracle Financials).
+ SaaS ERP Readiness & Roadmap Contribution: Serve as a technical advisor and contributor to the ongoing SaaS ERP evaluation (Oracle Fusion, Workday, SAP S/4HANA). Translate procurement business needs into technical requirements and lead proof-of-concept and integration readiness activities.
+ Engineering and Development: Design and develop scalable technical solutions, integrations (REST/SOAP APIs, SFTP, B2B), data mapping, and customizations to meet evolving procurement automation and reporting needs.
+ Stakeholder & Vendor Collaboration: Work closely with business stakeholders in Procurement, Finance, and IT to prioritize backlogs, define technical feasibility, and translate requirements into working solutions. Engage with vendors during support escalations and platform enhancements.
+ Documentation, Governance & Compliance: Maintain technical specifications, pseudo-code, integration design documents, and participate in audits. Ensure alignment with CareFirst internal governance and security standards (e.g., SFTP adoption, audit remediation).
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Position does not have direct reports but is expected to assist in guiding and mentoring less experienced staff. May lead a team of matrixed resources.
QUALIFICATIONS:
**Education Level:** Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science OR in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.
**Experience:** 5 years experience with software development, basic coding and compilation, software architecture/design, user requirements definition and software specification development.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ SAP Ariba (e.g., Ariba Integration, Ariba Sourcing/Contracts/Buying, Invoicing, SIPM)
+ Oracle Cloud Procurement or Workday Procurement
+ SAFe Agile Practitioner (a plus)
+ 5+ years in Procurement technology implementation or support
+ Strong experience with ERP transitions or cloud SaaS transformation projects is required (Oracle Cloud, Workday, or SAP S/4HANA preferred).
+ Prior experience with file-based integration (SFTP), B2B connectivity, middleware platforms, and audit remediation initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
+ Deep understanding of source-to-pay (S2P) lifecycle and procurement best practices.
+ Experience with enterprise integration patterns, REST/SOAP APIs, IDoc/XML, middleware tools (Boomi, MuleSoft, or Oracle Integration Cloud).
+ Strong scripting, data transformation, and troubleshooting skills.
+ Working knowledge of ERP financial integration touchpoints (GL, AP, PO, Vendor Master).
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to evaluate existing systems and propose scalable, future-ready solutions.
+ Familiarity with security, compliance, and audit requirements in regulated environments.
+ Ability to communicate technical requirements to all levels of expertise.
+ Proficient in establishing and maintaining good working relationships.
+ Knowledge and understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC).
+ Comfortable working in hybrid agile/waterfall environments and managing competing priorities.
+ Proficient with integrating complex and/or existing systems.
+ Knowledge of programming languages (e.g. JavaScript, C, Python, etc.).
+ Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
+ Knowledge of cloud technologies (e.g. AWS, Azure).
+ Knowledge of database technologies (e.g. cloud, SQL, Oracle, Mongo DB, PostgreSQL, etc.).
+ Fundamental knowledge of software engineers, best practices, agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines.
+ Knowledge of test-first practices including Test-Driven Development (TDD) for unit tests and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) for automated acceptance tests.
+ Strong experience with Deployment/Continuous Integration/ Continuous Testing/ Continuous Delivery processes and tools and have expertise in CI/CD tools and framework.
+ Knowledge of Code quality and promotion practices.
Salary Range: $96,552 - $191,763
