Chemours is seeking a **Corrosion Engineering Specialist** to join our Engineering Technology team. The on-site position will be available at the **Chemours Discovery Hub, in Newark.**

This position will require technical expertise in corrosion, applied chemistry, and metallurgy to execute strategic corrosion and materials technology initiatives for Chemours’ growth and manufacturing initiatives globally. The support extends from new bench scale process development, pilot plant operations, and capital projects for new processes to managing and resolving corrosion issues and failures in Chemours’ operating processes.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

+ Serve as a Corrosion Specialist for materials selection and degradation issues in highly corrosive chemical processes within Chemours manufacturing sites, Capital projects, and new process development efforts.

+ Select high-performance alloy metallurgies as materials of construction for unique process chemistries with a strong understanding of potential degradation mechanisms and interactions within the process system.

+ Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to understand process chemistries, compounds, process upsets, and process changes to be able to mitigate potential damage mechanisms in process equipment.

+ Design and implement lab corrosion testing (unique/specialized as well as ASTM and other standardized tests) and field corrosion monitoring programs to ensure sustainability in the corrosive process chemistries in question.

+ Execute root cause failure analyses of equipment for long-term compatibility and reliability of process equipment in corrosive services.

+ Contribute to, and eventually lead, cross-functional Business teams to drive robust solutions on major corrosion and materials issues in R&D and manufacturing processes.

+ Direct and train laboratory technologists and materials engineers on laboratory corrosion test setups and procedures, including safety protocols and hazard reviews, and managing the Corporate Corrosion Database.

+ Travel to plant sites and fabrication shops, estimated 10%.

The following Is** **_required_** **for this role:

+ MS or PhD in Chemistry, Corrosion Engineering, or Chemical Engineering with a strong understanding of metallurgy.

    OR

+ MS or PhD in Materials Science or Metallurgical Engineering with a strong working knowledge of chemical interactions with metallic materials.

    AND

+ Minimum 1 year experience working in either a chemical manufacturing or research environment (will constitute up to 6 months experience of internship/research work).

+ Strong experimental background in corrosion testing methods with the ability to design and implement novel lab tests. Ability to direct and work safely with a variety of hazardous and corrosive environments is essential.

+ Working knowledge of the metallurgy, performance, and limitations of various alloys (either stainless steel, titanium, and nickel-based such as Alloy 22, Alloy 625, Alloy C-276, or strongly related.) in corrosive environments, as well as their potential corrosion damage mechanisms.

+ Strong interpersonal, networking and teamwork skills for leading and building consensus in multi-disciplinary teams for problem solving, and working well with all levels of Chemours personnel, including upper-level management, engineering subject matter experts, plant personnel, lab technologists, and research scientists, chemists, and analytical personnel.

+ Flexibility, strong time management, and prioritization skills. The ability to meet commitments in a timely manner is crucial as consulting efforts will vary from intense short-term laboratory testing and root cause failure analyses (RCFAs) to longer-term in-depth technical programs and field on-line corrosion monitoring.

The following Is** **_preferred_** **for this role:

+ 5 + years of experience in the Chemical Process or related Industries.

+ In-depth knowledge and experience specifying high performance corrosion resistant materials of construction (such as nickel-based or reactive metals) for new and replacement process equipment in harsh corrosive chemical environments.

+ Hands-on experience designing and implementing field corrosion tests that accurately replicate the damage mechanism(s) within corrosive environments/situations.

+ Strong foundation in chemistry, particularly molecules and reactions involved in the production of refrigerants and polymers.

+ Ability to develop and lead longer-term applied research programs around Chemours’s operating and developmental chemical manufacturing processes.
