    THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections is actively looking to hire an Institutional Fire Safety Specialist for its facility in Cumberland County. This crucial role involves the comprehensive coordination, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of a robust fire prevention and safety program tailored for the Department of Corrections (DOC) at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) Camp Hill. The selected candidate will play a vital part in ensuring the safety and well-being of both staff and inmates by developing strategies to mitigate fire risks and enhance emergency preparedness. If you are passionate about fire safety and are eager to contribute to a secure environment, we encourage you to apply today!

    DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role entails significant responsibility in managing a comprehensive fire prevention and firefighting program, as well as coordinating, implementing, and assessing the overall safety initiatives within a state institution. The position requires adherence to state and local regulations, industry standards, and the specific policies and guidelines of the department and facility. Key responsibilities include administering the Fire Prevention and Safety Program for the State Correctional Institutions (SCIs) and supervising the Fire Emergency Response Team (FERT) in both routine and specialized tasks. The individual in this role is expected to provide timely and detailed status reports to the Safety Manager regarding compliance issues identified through internal audits, facility inspections, and other assessments. Regular inspections are conducted to evaluate adherence to the program and to pinpoint areas needing improvement, such as upgrades to equipment or systems, renovations, or additional resources. The identification of program deficiencies leads to the development and implementation of corrective action plans, alongside the preparation of both routine and specialized reports for review. The position also involves analyzing incident reports to recommend preventive measures and participating actively as a member of the Department of Corrections' Safety Initiative Committee. Furthermore, the role includes offering consultative support to executive staff on relevant safety matters, as well as developing, updating, and implementing necessary changes to DOC policies and facility practices in collaboration with the Safety Manager and other stakeholders to ensure ongoing program compliance. Guidance is provided to staff regarding the interpretation and application of fire safety policies and regulatory standards, while also developing training curricula to address identified needs for both basic and specialized training. The individual is responsible for coordinating, facilitating, and delivering training sessions as required, in addition to providing orientation for new employees and contract staff.
