Summary
**SUMMARY** :The Neurohospitalist will provide neurology services for Alameda Health System, under employment from Alameda Health Medical Group. Services will be on-site at Highland Hospital, San Leandro Hospital and Alameda Hospital.
**DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS** : NOTE: Following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.
1. Inpatient responsibilities: Provide attending coverage of the inpatient neurology consult service at least twenty (20) weeks per year. Coverage is defined as weekday in-person (9am-5pm) and embedded overnight home pager call (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday night), excluding AHS holidays and weekends. Call coverage schedule may be adjusted for parity if inpatient coverage exceeds 20 weeks per year. In this capacity, provide consultative acute care to hospitalized patients with a range of neurologic conditions, including stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and encephalopathy
2. Outpatient responsibilities: Hold one full-day (8 hour) Neurohospitalist clinic per week when not covering the inpatient service, excluding PTO days. In this capacity, provide post-discharge follow-up and new patient evaluations of outpatients with a range of neurologic conditions
3. Conduct thorough evaluations of patients with neurological disorders
4. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient assessment and diagnostic findings
5. Order and personally interpret diagnostic tests such as MRI, CT, EEG, and lumbar punctures
6. Perform lumbar punctures
7. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including hospitalists, emergency department providers, primary care physicians, neurosurgeons, and rehab therapists, to ensure comprehensive patient care
8. Provide patient education on neurological diagnoses, treatment, prognoses, and disease prevention
9. Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records in compliance with regulatory requirements
10. Participate in continuing education and professional development to stay current with advancements in neurology
11. Engage in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and hospital/clinic efficiency
12. Participate in regular Neurology Division and Neurology Clinic meetings
13. Supervise Neurology Physician Assistant(s)
14. Supervise Internal Medicine resident(s), medical student(s), and other trainee(s) rotating on the Neurology service and/or in Neurohospitalist clinic
15. Perform administrative duties for the Neurology division as assigned by the Chief of Neurology
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS** :
Education: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.)from an accredited institution.
Required: Board Certified in Neurology.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
+ Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of California
+ Valid DEA license
Proven excellence in diagnosing and treating acute and chronic neurological conditions.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective patient and team interactions.
Proven teaching experience.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Pay Range: $368,364.46 - $390,206.75 / Annually
_The pay range for this position reflects the base pay scale for the role at Alameda Health System. Final compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, departmental equity, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and the operational needs of the organization.
