Join the A to Z Communications team at Amazon, part of PXT's Content and Communications Experience Technology (CCXT) organization. Our team powers solutions for content management and communications to 1.5 million Amazonians across 67 countries and 31 languages, and is responsible for Amazon's core internal communication platforms.

As a Software Development Engineer on the A to Z Communications team, you'll design and build next-generation communication systems that power Amazon's enterprise-wide internal communications. Our unified communications platform serves 36K+ authors communicating with 3M+ global Amazonians over 6 key channels: email, SMS, push notifications, A to Z web and mobile, HRSC, and digital signage. We handle massive scale with 56K pieces of content and 628M deliveries in 2024 alone.

You'll join one of our specialized teams (Content, Delivery, or Experience), working on exciting technologies that include agentic AI systems. We're strong adopters of generative AI, continuously innovating through initiatives like our "48 Hours of Innovation" hackathons where engineers build AI-powered prototypes that compress weeks of development work into days. Our core strategy includes "Agentic AI over manual effort" – we leverage AI agents in building our systems and design our systems to be operated by agents in an AI-first world.

Key job responsibilities

Content Team Responsibilities:

- Design and develop robust, scalable solutions for A to Z's content publishing platform

- Build unified authoring experiences for corporate news, operations news, site-level content, and more

- Implement sophisticated content targeting, approval workflows, and translation capabilities

- Create intuitive content creation interfaces for various communication channels

- Develop AI-powered writing assistants that optimize content engagement across different audiences

Delivery Team Responsibilities:

- Build high-performance delivery infrastructure for email, push, SMS, and web communications

- Implement real-time integrations with employee data for precise content targeting

- Develop unified APIs for tenant builders to leverage our communications platform

- Create self-service capabilities to reduce operational overhead

- Design monitoring and analytics systems to ensure reliable message delivery at scale

Experience Team Responsibilities:

- Develop personalized content experiences for A to Z web and mobile platforms

- Build and enhance digital signage capabilities through the Raindrops platform

- Create unified content consumption experiences across multiple channels

- Implement audience segmentation and personalization features

- Design analytics tools to measure and enhance content engagement metrics

A day in the life

You'll start your day checking system health metrics and addressing any operational issues. During your morning standup, you might discuss progress on integrating AI-powered content generation or implementing a new feature for our unified communications platform. Later, you'll collaborate with designers on new interface components, then spend time implementing key features for your team's area of responsibility.

You might meet with stakeholders to understand their workflow needs or join a technical design review for upcoming system enhancements. Throughout the day, you'll write high-quality code, conduct code reviews, and mentor junior team members. You'll finish by documenting your progress and planning your next tasks to build this critical communications infrastructure.

About the team

The A to Z Communications team builds the technology platforms that power communications to Amazon's global workforce. We're organized into three specialized teams (Content, Delivery, and Experience) with clear responsibilities and charter:

Content Team: Owns the content publishing platform, serving content creators who publish corporate news, operations news, site-level content, and more across all channels.

Delivery Team: Responsible for delivering content across all channels (email, push, SMS, A to Z Web and Mobile, digital signage), serving tenant builders within A to Z Comms and throughout Amazon.

Experience Team: Owns content consumption experiences for 3M+ global Amazonians, including A to Z web and mobile platforms and the Raindrops digital signage system.

Our organization consists of 40+ Software Development Engineers, Software Development Managers, Technical Program Managers, Product Managers, and Data Engineers supporting multiple products across more than 30 software systems.

Basic Qualifications

- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

- Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
