    Purpose of Classification

     

    To perform assignments in business promotion and outreach, marketing, and social media content creation and design. . Assist the City’s Economic Development Division with promoting small business programs and initiatives, community outreach, and marketing the City as a place to invest. . It is expected that an incumbent is fully competent to perform the full range of duties for this class independently and with minimal supervision. The City’s Economic Development Division is responsible for establishing a healthy and vibrant local economy by attracting investment, servicing businesses and entrepreneurs, developing a diverse and skilled workforce, and creating economic opportunities to improve the economic well-being and quality of life for all.

    Essential Functions

    The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

     

    Promotes economic development programs related to business attraction, expansion, and retention. Duties may involve research, writing, presenting reports, and data collection and analysis.

     

    Creates marketing materials including, but not limited to, printed and promotional materials, newsletters, brochures, flyers, postcards, and videos.

     

    Promotes business incentives and grant programs offered by the City.

     

    Creates educational and informational content regarding current development, economic development programs, policies, and events.

     

    Maintains accurate and up-to-date information on the Economic Development Division’s webpage.

     

    Assists with maintaining and updating the City’s database of area businesses and economic development contacts.

     

    Assists with the assembly, content creation, and distribution of the Economic Development Newsletter and periodic email blasts.

     

    Develops, implements, and maintains a comprehensive economic development marketing plan to help brand the City as a place to invest, start and grow a business, and live.

     

    Establishes and executes marketing campaigns to attract new businesses and investment to the City.

     

    Collaborates closely with the Public Affairs Department on the City’s messaging and branding.

     

    Collaborates with the other departments on marketing and public outreach efforts to create a positive image and brand for the City.

     

    Assists with the development and distribution of marketing material to local businesses and community members.

     

    Creates and maintains a calendar of content for the Economic Development Division’s social media platforms, i.e. Facebook and LinkedIn.

     

    Assists with preparing reports and presentations for economic development stakeholders, boards, trade associations and City leaders.

     

    Responds orally and in writing to inquiries and provides information to the public on services and programs.

     

    Represents the Division at community events to promote the Division’s programs, activities, and special events; posts real-time to social media.

     

    Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Marketing, Communications, Advertising, Digital Media, Public Relations, Business, or a closely related field; and

    + Within the last five (5) years must posses two (2) years of professional experience implementing marketing strategies, creating social media content, digital marketing, and/or coordinating varied outreach projects; and

    + Must possess (or able to obtain within fourteen (14) days of hire) and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.

    Knowledge of the principles and techniques of business promotion and marketing strategies.

     

    Proficient in graphic design programs such as Canva and Issuu.

     

    Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint), Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, In Design, etc.), and email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp.

     

    Strong skills in professional use of social media platforms, including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Google + and other blogging, video and web platforms.

     

    Skill in operation of cameras, audio and visual equipment, screens, PowerPoint projectors and speakers.

     

    Skill in photography and photo editing.

     

    Knowledge of video production and editing; ability to complete video projects.

     

    Knowledge of modern marketing and communication practices; promotional events planning.

     

    Writing and editing techniques for a variety of audiences.

     

    Ability to develop and implement established goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.

     

    Ability to meet program objectives including timetable deliverables and work plans.

     

    Be an innovative and creative thinker, who possesses the ability to work independently and in an open team setting.

     

    Sound understanding of branding, business development, communications, and marketing principles.

     

    Ability to make decisions and solve problems.

     

    Ability to assist with the planning, organizing and implementation of economic development programs and services, including a proactive outreach and communication program to promote the City as a great place to live, work, and play.

     

    Ability to organize work, set priorities and exercise sound independent judgment within established guidelines, including using creative ways to solve issues.

     

    Ability to develop, establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, officials, participants, vendors, community leaders, and the general public.

     

    Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing fundamental technical information to the business community and the general public.

     

    Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays.

    Health Insurance

    The City pays the entire premium for an eligible employee. The employee may elect to cover a spouse and/or dependent children by paying the applicable premium for the dependent(s).

    Dental Insurance

    Premiums for eligible employees are paid by the City. Premiums for any covered dependent are paid by the employee with a contribution by the City.

    Vision Care Plan

    Premiums for eligible employees are paid by the City. Premiums for any covered dependent(s) are paid by the employee.

     

    Life Insurance / Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance

     

    The City provides each eligible employee with term life and accidental death insurance.

    Supplemental Life Insurance / Supplemental AD&D Insurance

    Employees may purchase supplemental term life insurance on an individual-choice basis with premiums based on age. A matching amount of Accidental Death insurance may also be purchased.

     

    Dependent Life Insurance

     

    Employees who select supplemental coverage for themselves may also purchase coverage for their spouse and dependent children.

    City Retirement / Pension Plans

    The City has pension plans for general employees, police, and firefighters. Each plan is contributory with both the employee and the City contributing to the program.

    Supplemental Plans

    Supplemental plans provide direct cash payments regardless of any other coverage you may have, and are designed to help fill in any gaps in a medical plan. The employee pays the premiums for these supplemental plans.

    Short and Long Term Disability

    The City makes available three deferred compensation plans that the employee may voluntarily contribute to on a tax-deferred basis.

    Vacation

    All full-time employees accrue time toward paid vacation leave. Accrual begins immediately and vacation may be taken after six months of employment.

     

    Holidays

     

    The City observes12 paid holidays throughout the year.

    Sick Leave / Family Sick Leave

    Full-time employees accrue one day of sick leave per month. An employee may elect to use up to 5 days per year of accrued sick time for illness in his/her immediate family.

     

    Tuition Assistance*(Depending on available budget funding)

     

    The Tuition Assistance Program reimburses eligible employees for successful completion of approved courses leading to Associate, Bachelor and Master degrees.

    Employees may choose to enroll in a prepaid legal service plan and an identity theft protection plan. The employee pays the premiums for these plans.

    Section 125 Plan for Health and Dental Premium

     

    Section 125 of the Internal Revenue code allows you to have your dependent coverage premiums deducted before payroll taxes are withheld resulting in tax savings to you.

     

    Flexible Spending Accounts

     

    Employees may participate in flexible spending accounts for reimbursement of medical and/or dependent care expenses.

     

    Direct Deposit

     

    Employees may have their bi-weekly paycheck deposited to the financial institution of their choice.
