    Definition

     

    Under direction, is responsible for supervising others engaged in billing, billing adjustments, and/or responding to customer inquiries; performs related duties as required.

    + Assigns and monitors the work activities of personnel engaged in billing, billing adjustments, and/or responding to customer inquiries;

    + Trains personnel in customer service activities and work procedures;

    + Evaluates performance of personnel by developing work standards and completing performance appraisals;

    + Recommends the approval of leaves of absence and disciplinary actions for subordinates;

    + Responds to customer inquiries and handles escalated calls; resolves problems which cannot be rectified by customer service representatives;

    + Explains and interprets governmental regulations, policies, and procedures to personnel;

    + Compiles statistics and summaries for inclusion in weekly, monthly, or yearly reports;

    + Checks ledgers, deposit slips, and cash reports prior to submission to the Treasurer's Office;

    + Prepares and/or directs the preparation of correspondence to customers, coworkers, supervisors, or the general public as appropriate;

    + Supervises and coordinates activities of customer service personnel;

    + Monitors service calls to observe employee’s demeanor, technical accuracy, and conformity to City policies and procedures;

    + Receives, researches, and responds to all damage claims;

    + Recommends corrective services to adjust customer complaints;

    + Coordinates with community representatives and other City divisions to investigate and respond to customer concerns and/or complaints;

    + Coordinates with outside financial organizations to resolve customer billing problems.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Completion of the twelfth school grade and four (4) years of experience in customer relations and/or customer service involving account maintenance, billing, billing adjustments, customer inquiries, or service complaints. Substitution(s): A certificate of high school equivalence (GED) may be substituted for the required education.

    The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create aNEW, OPEN COMPETITIVE, eligible list for this classification. If you are interested in having your name included on the new eligible list, you will need to apply for this exam within the filing period and successfully complete all phases of the testing process. Questions regarding this process can be directed to the Test Center at 614-645-7439.

     

    The examination process will consist of a computer skills exam weighted 100% covering Supervision, Reading Comprehension, Logic and Reasoning, Multitasking, Customer Service, Water/Power Customer Inquiries, and 2016/2019 Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

     

    Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time.

     

    All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
