Join the Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) team, where you'll contribute to groundbreaking innovations! The Chemical Analysis Service Center is seeking an Engineering Assistant to support a variety of internal operations and programs within the Materials Process Engineering group.
This position will assist the Chemical Analysis Service Center Manager with precision masking of sensitive hardware, preparation of models for automated tape cutting, and precision cleaning of sensitive hardware, such as gold-plated surfaces or painted hardware. The ideal candidate is dependable, self-motivated, and capable of working independently with minimal oversight in a research laboratory environment, while also handling various hands-on technical challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Perform precision masking and preparation of sensitive hardware
+ Prepare and optimize models for automated tape cutting processes
+ Execute precision cleaning of delicate surfaces, including gold-plated and painted hardware
+ Assist with chemical etching and surface preparation processes
+ Follow detailed written and verbal procedures for a variety of materials processes
+ Participate in contamination control efforts in compliance with industry standards (ASTM, IEST, NASA, MIL)
+ Plan and prioritize weekly tasks, reporting progress to the supervisor
+ Process data and generate detailed reports, including test reports, traveler entries, calibration certifications, and equipment maintenance records
Required Qualifications:
+ Completion of at least one semester of college-level chemistry coursework
+ Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
+ Quick learner, able to apply new skills to daily tasks
+ Proficiency in MS Office and the ability to learn new software
+ Proficiency in CAD modeling
+ Ability to read and interpret technical schematics, drawings, and diagrams
+ Strong multitasking ability, managing multiple tasks simultaneously
+ Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment
+ Exceptional attention to detail to ensure high reproducibility of results
+ Experience working in cleanroom environments
+ Must be available and willing to work 15-20 hours per week during school semesters and up to 40 hours per week during school breaks
+ Must be a US citizen, lawful permanent resident of the US, or other US person
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
+ Must be able and willing to walk and stand for extended periods while working in a cleanroom environment
+ Must be able and willing to lift to 50 lbs. and frequently reach overhead
+ Must be able and willing to independently put on and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
+ Comfortable working safely with chemicals in a cleanroom setting
