    Position Summary

    The Tax Specialist position will provide personalized one on one assistance to employers, agents, and attorneys in establishing a relationship between claimant and employer to support a claimant's UI Claim. Conduct research to find alternative solutions if necessary; make and assist in the implementation of recommendations. Prepare and gather documents for manager, legal and appeals tribunal for hearings. Attend hearings and appeals related to each tax specialist's 515 account. Research and remove any duplicate wages reported due to 515 wages added. Create and send spreadsheets to manager to create reports and send to Employer Adjustments for processing supplements. Research and verify information to provide technical assistance to the public, agency staff, and other entities as directed. Hotline calls are answered in a timely manner, efficiently, and courteously to resolve the problems or requests of the employers/agents. This position will research and contact employers for additional information to determine if an account can be created. Set up accounts and send documents to New Hire email for the manager to complete the final process. Consistently and timely read and respond to electronic mail including the unit email inbox and work email inbox. Read, comprehend, and effectively apply federal, state, and agency policies, procedures, and administrative guidelines to facilitate processes. Research and Process IRS recertification requests by employers/ agents via email and phone call. Research and verify rates when employers/agents submit protest letters concerning rates for the employer's accounts. This position is governed by Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

     

    This position requires on-sute employment with no remote or hybrid options available.

     

    Education and Professional Work Experience

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Minim um of 2 years of specialized experience in tax preparation or compliance, with hands-on experience in filing returns and handling tax documentation.

     

    Job Responsibilities and Expected Results

    + + Provide personalized one on one assistance to employers and agents in setting up a new Employer Account with DWS.

    + Receive all documentation necessary to create an account.

    + Receive documents from the manager in Payment Processing for New Hire accounts.

    + Research and contact employers for additional information to determine if an account can be created.

    + If missing information or information is inaccurate, call the employer.

    + Set up accounts and send documents to New Hire email for the manager to complete the final process.

    + Guide Employers and Agents through the process of closing accounts through our system online or supply forms to submit via email.

    + Ensure the employer account is closed.

    + Mail out liability letters after completion of a contract issue on a 515.

    + Email Employer Adjustments when making changes to wages on a quarter that affects the total/taxable totals so a tax adjustment can be made.

    + Close 515 accounts when all the information/wages are received and completed.

    + Prepare and gather documents for manager, legal and appeals tribunal for hearings.

    + Attend hearings and appeals related to each tax specialist's 515 account.

    + Research and remove duplicate wages that were reported due to 515 wages added.

    + Create and send spreadsheets to the manager to create reports to send to Employer Adjustments for processing supplements.

    + Research and verify information to provide technical assistance to the public, agency staff, and other entities as directed.

    + Read, comprehend, and effectively apply federal, state, and agency policies, procedures, and administrative guidelines to facilitate processes.

    + Research and Process IRS recertification requests by employers/ agents via email and phone call.

    + Research and contact employers for additional information to determine if an account is to be terminated or reinstated.

    + Request proper forms to reinstate or terminate accounts.

    + Apply features of Excel to design\format spreadsheets and create accurate formulas for testing rates.

    + Research and verify rates when employers/agents submit protest letters concerning rates for the employer's accounts.

    + Correspond with employer/agents with a response of the protest after investigation.

    + Hotline calls are answered in a timely manner, efficiently, and courteously to resolve the problems or requests of the employers/agents.

    + Apply basic accounting, billing skills, state and federal laws and agency/institution policies during the process of adjusting tax reports.

    + Consistently arrive at work by designated work hours on time with no unexcused tardies.

    + Attending any of the courses offered by OPM with approval by supervisor and manager.

    + Blackout dates during rush are mandatory.

    Job Summary

    The Tax Specialist is an hardened professional whose primary role is to oversee, plan, and execute tax-related tasks for individuals or organizations. Tasked with ensuring tax compliance, the Tax Specialist applies in‐depth knowledge of federal and state tax laws and regulations to prepare tax returns, advise on tax-saving strategies, and mitigate potential financial risks. This role demands strong analytical skills and an eye for detail, enabling the specialist to interpret evolving tax codes and implement procedures that minimize liabilities while ensuring adherence to legal standards.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Prepare and file accurate tax returns for individuals, agencies, or other entities. Ensure that all tax filings meet current regulatory standards and deadlines. Maintain and update the agency’s tax records and databases. Evaluate current financial statements and transactions to identify potential tax benefits. Guide clients or internal teams on tax-efficient financial strategies. Develop recommendations aimed at minimizing tax liabilities through proactive tax planning. Continuously monitor changes in tax laws, regulations, and industry trends. Conduct comprehensive tax research to resolve inconsistencies or disputes. Prepare detailed reports on tax positions, deductions, and credits for review by management or auditors. Assist during tax audits, addressing inquiries from tax authorities and resolving discrepancies. Support investigations into tax disputes or potential non-compliance issues. Work closely with internal accounting teams and external personnel in an attempt to synchronize tax strategies. Present clear and concise tax advisory reports to senior management. Provide training or support to junior personnel on complex tax-related matters.

     

    Knowledge and Skills

     

    Strong understanding of tax software, digital financial systems, and advanced Excel skills. Ability to adapt to new tax research tools and government reporting systems. Excellent analytical capabilities to interpret financial data and extract relevant tax implications. Aptitude for problem-solving and foreseeing potential tax issues before they arise. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for effective personnel interactions. Ability to translate complex tax codes into actionable advice.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Minimum of 2 years of specialized experience in tax preparation or compliance, with hands-on experience in filing returns and handling tax documentation. Advanced credentials such as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation may be required.
