Summary:
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is the leader of the team accountable for 24 hour/7 day a week management and evaluation of clinical and non-clinical operations including nursing practice, patient care delivery, the management of human resources, as well as adjunct and collaborative fiscal responsibility for their designated areas of responsibility with the Director Women and Infant Services MHB and SOCH. The Assistant Director will be responsible for the retention and development of existing personnel as well as fostering interdisciplinary collaborative relationships within areas of responsibility and the ministry as a whole. The Assistant Director facilitates collegial and collaborative relationships between care teams and ensures policy/procedure/practice, performance improvement and care processes are current and meet the needs of the patient population served. The Assistant Director will be responsible for compliance with regulatory and professional standards and participate in strategic planning for the hospital. The Assistant Director will be responsible for the clinical emergency preparedness, planning, drills and exercises for the ministry. The ADON will provide oversight for the L/D, NICU and M/B units at Mercy Hospital under the Director Women and Infant Services MHB and SOCH and the VP PCS at MHB.
Responsibilities:
Education
+ Graduate of an accredited professional school of nursing.
+ Current Licensed Professional Nurse in New York State.
+ BSN required
+ Master's Degree required within 2 years of hire
+ Nationally recognized nursing certification or within 1 year of hire.
+ BLS/ACLS Certification, PALS and neonatal resuscitation.
+ Completion of FEMA - National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 700, 800 courses within 1 year of hire.
Experience
+ Five (5) years clinical nursing experience with a minimum of three (3) years, progressive supervisory/management experience required
Knowledge, Skill and Ability
+ Interpersonal skills necessary to work productively and effectively with all levels of unit personnel, as well as physicians, families, visitors, and to manage the activities of a diverse group of professional, nonprofessional, and clerical employees
+ Possesses active listening and communication skills
+ Planning skills to develop goals and objectives in concert with those of the hospital and implements action plans to meet those goals
+ Analytical ability to identify opportunities for improvements as well as positive problem resolution
+ Teaching abilities to promote optimum orientation and continuing education of associates
+ Knowledge of Performance Improvement Initiatives and able to identify areas for improvement and carry out measurable action plans
+ Budgeting skills to control fiscal operations of selected unit(s) and/or area(s) of responsibility, and to identify and explain variances
+ Has current knowledge of health care trends and issues and relates same to hospital and work area environment
+ Occasional prolonged standing, walking, sitting
+ Computer literate
