    Job Description

    A client of Insight Global is seeking to add a Mid-Level Distribution Engineer to its growing team. The Distribution Engineer will be designing overhead and underground power lines for various industrial, commercial, and residential projects. Under the direction of the Supervisor of Engineering, you will develop plans, specifications, and cost estimates for the installation, inspection, maintenance, and expansion of the electric overhead and underground transmission & distribution systems. You will also assist the Supervisor of Engineering with developing project designs by attending pre-construction conferences, meeting & corresponding with developers, builders, and customers, visiting properties, construction sites, and traversing across all types of terrain to perform asset auditing, surveying, staking, measuring and other related duties. Other responsibilities include:

    • Assist with the review of distribution, transmission and distributed generation plans, applications, specifications, contracts, codes, ordinances, etc. of CIP projects and advise developers, contractors & customers regarding project technical requirements and meeting KCPU policies, local, state, federal and recognized design standards.

    • Prepare and interpret one-line diagrams; control schematics; as-built documents; vendor drawings; contracts; service agreements; and other records or documents pertaining to systems projects and programs, system modifications or upgrades, and such other areas as assigned.

    • Calculate conductor sag and tension project data the use of manual & electronic methods. Determine system operating parameters for the transmission & distribution system. Perform engineering calculations for customer electric load sizing; transformer sizing, circuit voltage drops; pole and guy strength requirements; cable pulling analysis; cable & duct bank ampacity ratings; protection and coordination studies for fuses; sectionalizing devices, reclosers, etc. and other calculations pertaining to systems projects and programs.

    • Assist with responding to emergency conditions and restoring the distribution system to normal operation. Prepare studies, reports and recommendations pertaining to the overall electric transmission & distribution system operation.

    • Read and interpret operating and maintenance reports resulting from operations and maintenance systems and recommend system improvements.

     

    Coordinate electrical distribution system, street lighting and traffic signal activities with other City departments, and with outside agencies.

    Skills and Requirements

     

    Bachelors in electrical engineering (ABET accredited degree)

     

    2-4 years of industry experience as an electrical engineer supporting power distribution projects (Transmission lines, distribution lines)

     

    Exposure/knowledge of AutoCAD

     

    Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Previous utility experience

    Experience with Pole planner, AUD null
