We are seeking a **Construction Materials Laboratory Technician** to join our Louisville, KY team! Come join us!
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
The technical expertise of the Materials Testing Laboratory Technician is focused on construction materials and geotechnical testing primarily in the lab. This person will perform daily work in the lab, assist the Laboratory Manager and Geotechnical Engineers, and assist as needed for various construction project types including commercial, industrial, residential, and transportation. This position will be part of a dynamic, growing, and energized team focused on client service, growth, and continued development. While job duties may fluctuate day-to-day according to client and division management requests and requirements, areas of expected proficient performance include:
+ Perform laboratory tests on construction and geologic materials, mostly relating to soils, concrete, masonry, and rock, under the direction of the Laboratory Manager and Geotechnical Engineers.
+ Interpret test data and prepare laboratory reports and summaries.
+ Calibrate and maintain lab testing equipment, under guidance of engineers and managers
+ Construction site field visits to retrieve field test specimens and deliver to the laboratory for additional testing.
+ Field test soil and concrete, may be utilized for fieldwork during busy times of year.
+ Communicate with others as applicable regarding lab results, project requirements, testing, observation, and report inspection requirements and results.
+ Coordinate with the Construction Materials Testing Manager and Geotechnical Engineers to meet project and client requirements.
+ Keep the laboratory organized and in compliance with QA/QC and safety requirements.
+ Assist the Laboratory Manager in maintaining DOT, AMRL, CCRL and AASHTO accreditation.
+ Receive material samples with associated identifying documentation into the laboratory for further testing and analysis as needed.
+ Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and observations in the form of written and digital reports as work is performed for transmittal to the appropriate manager and client.
+ Maintain and clean equipment and work areas.
+ Possess a safety-conscious attitude toward work, and ensure performance within Atlas safety guidelines.
+ Perform other duties as requested/required.
Minimum requirements:
+ High School diploma, GED, or Bachelor’s degree in related field, such as Construction, Materials, Engineering, Geology, etc.
+ 1-8 years experience in construction materials laboratory or testing operations
+ Valid driver's license
+ Physical strength, stamina and dexterity to lift and move 70 lbs, stoop, bend, and stand throughout the course of up to a 12-hour work day in varying weather conditions in varying terrain.
+ Experience with concrete, soils, and asphalt testing is preferred.
+ Motivated, career-oriented individual striving to learn and achieve within the construction industry.
+ Must be willing to travel within Kentucky and Indiana as required by assignments.
+ Communicate effectively with Atlas managers, engineering staff, and contractors
+ Perform all job functions within Atlas safety guidelines
+ Perform other duties as requested/required
+ Strong written/verbal communication skills
+ The ability to read plans & specifications
+ Ability to travel periodically as required by client work
+ Ability to obtain the following, with training provided as needed: Nuclear density gauge and basic concrete and soils certifications, ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician, ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I, Radiation safety for the use of Nuclear Density Gauges.
Technical requirements:
+ ICC, AASHTO, NICET, and INDOT and/or KYTC certifications are a plus
+ Technical writing, report writing, calculations
+ Metafield, Gint, Tablogs
Other miscellaneous qualities:
+ Ability to travel periodically as required by client work.
+ Valid State Driver’s license with clean driving record.
