    Role Overview:

    This role is responsible for participating in preventative maintenance and/or maintenance repair work at the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT). You will follow general instructions and standard practices of the trade. This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.

    Location :

    This position is located in INDOT’s Laporte District.

    Salary :

    This position traditionally starts at an hourly rate of $18.00 an hour.

     

    A Day in the Life:

    The essential elements of the job duties:

    + Oversees the work of outside contractors, making sure assigned work is completed appropriately and as scheduled, as well as in a safe and efficient manner

    + Identifies, makes recommendations to the proper parties, and takes appropriate action to ensure timely correction of maintenance issues/problems at all district facilities

    + Oversees operation and maintenance of the facility and/or buildings to minimize the interruption of service to various operations

    + Assists in ensuring that the facility and grounds are in a constant state of survey readiness from a maintenance perspective

    + Initiates repair parts order requests, recommends items for inventory stock, and monitors use

    + Provides service and repairs to various facilities motors, panels, transformers, lighting systems, brine systems

    + deer burners, lift stations, propane dispensers

    + Performs support work with/for other crafts/trades

    + Installs commercial doors and hardware

    What You'll Need for Success:

    This person must have the following requirements to be considered for employment:

    + Valid high school diploma or GED, preferred

    + One (1) year of work experience, maintenance preferred

    + Must possess a valid driver’s license

    + Must be able to lift 50 pounds

    + Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing and walking for long periods of time

    + Candidate will be required to submit to and pass a drug test as a condition of employment

    Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:

    This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
