Executive for a group of product lines/technologies or a franchise responsible for a disease state. Direct engineering staff to design and develop new products and product changes/enhancements. Devotes a significant amount of time to managerial, leadership and staff development responsibilities.
+ Drives functional excellence initiatives, delivers high quality functional deliverables, and ensures technical excellence for product or technical development.
+ Provides significant guidance and approval regarding technical & product development strategies, and approaches for class II and class III products, including regulatory and clinical trial strategies needed to commercializes the products in global markets .
+ Owns intellectual property development for the multiple product lines, technologies within their group.
+ Identifies future technology and intellectual property critical to future business growth and drives implementation. Active participant in the due diligence process and Patent Review board.
+ Active participation in investment governance boards such as project investment boards, early stage discovery boards etc
+ Have extensive internal contacts across Stryker and external contacts with physicians and/or industry specialists.
+ Provide support on new product launches in the field with customers, and the sales force through customer events
+ Interface with key opinion leaders globally on investment strategies, clinical studies to support product launches and adoption etc
+ Collaboratively with Marketing and Strategy groups, determines short and long term product strategies and technologies.
+ Be current in their space, by learning about un-met clinical needs of customers, clinical performance of existing Stryker NV products, gather competitive intelligence, understand major industry trends (reimbursements, healthcare reforms etc.)
+ Develops and monitors department budgets.
+ Determines appropriate staff levels, schedules and resources. Determines project staff assignments and schedules work to meet completion dates and R&D deliverables. Recruit and train top talent based on department needs.
+ Provides guidance and training to staff, assists subordinates in attaining career goals, motivates individuals to achieve results, and recruits and maintains a high quality staff.
+ Responsible for succession planning and the development and implementation of retention strategies.
+ Proactively reviews future technologies and plans needed resources with appropriate technical skills either through external search or training to prepare.
+ Consults with Clinical and Regulatory Affairs to ensure that new products meet approval and commercialization requirements
+ Establish and support a work environment of continuous improvement that supports Quality Policy, Quality System and the appropriate regulations for the area they support. Ensure all employees are trained to do their work and their training is documented
+ Experience in launching Class III products preferred such as vascular implants, embolics, access devices etc
+ Proven experience in ideating, developing and launching novel devices that were commercially successful is preferred
Education/Special training Required
+ B.S. degree in engineering or applicable technical field (mechanical or biomedical preferred) (M.S. or/and Ph.D. preferred)
Qualifications/Work Experience Required
+ Minimum 14+ years of medical device design & development experience.
+ Minimum 9+ years of people management experience preferred
