We are seeking an experienced Land Surveyor/Crew Chief to lead a crew on projects throughout the Southeastern region, based out of our Wilmington office. The role involves working independently or leading a small team, primarily within a crew of two individuals. The position focuses on ensuring the quality, accuracy, and clarity of survey work, meeting regulatory requirements, maintaining public relations, ensuring safety, adhering to schedules and budgets, and providing responsive service to clients.
Responsibilities
+ Locate, review, and research job locations to identify landmarks, physical objects, and significant land changes affecting the survey.
+ Supervise the work of the survey crew, evaluate priorities, and coordinate and organize work efforts.
+ Supervise the standard of work performed and derive necessary field calculations from completed work.
+ Supervise the maintenance of instruments and equipment.
+ Ensure angles, distances, and other collected information are accurate and conform to regulations and standards.
+ Coordinate findings with engineering personnel, clients, and others concerned with projects.
+ Research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain necessary data.
+ Determine methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control.
+ Keep accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe work performed.
+ Complete daily logs and expense reports.
+ Complete company and/or client safety forms and ensure crew members follow safety procedures.
+ Consult with computer operators and review the final production of work performed.
Essential Skills
+ 3+ years of progressive experience in survey field operations, with no less than 2 years as an Instrument Operator.
+ Proficiency with survey equipment including total stations, data collectors, and GPS equipment.
+ Good technical skills and behavioral traits such as being process-oriented, steady, helpful, analytical, a problem solver, and methodical.
+ Attention to detail and precision, with a preference for structure and consistency.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Familiarity with commonly used surveying terms and survey tools for measuring, sighting, and leveling.
+ Proficiency in operating survey equipment such as Total Station/Data Collector, Level, and various GPS methods.
+ Valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record.
Work Environment
The role is based out of the Wilmington, NC office, with a majority of time spent in the field. Travel within the region (NC, SC, VA) is expected, and overnight travel may be required if outside of a daily commute. Compensation is provided for travel, with approximately 60% travel possibility.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
