Job Information
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.
DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Health Department
HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
LOCATION OF WORK: 825 L Street Anchorage, AK 99501
Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

Example of Duties
Under the supervision of a registered dietitian, this position will develop and implement nutrition education and program outreach for the WIC Clinic including but not limited to group classes, playgroups, physical fitness opportunities, grocery store tours, cooking classes, education materials, bulletin boards, videos, social media campaigns and program evaluation. Assist Competent Professional Authority (CPA) staff with appointments by screening income, completing Anthropometric data, nutritional assessments, risk codes, and formulating food packages. Perform other related duties as assigned.
The Anchorage Health Department (AHD) engages in the State of Alaska Department of Health (DOH) emergency responses and the federal Incident Command System (ICS). This includes training exercises as part of the AHD's Crisis Health Action Team (CHAT) and municipal Emergency Operations Center (EOC). In the case of a natural or manmade disaster AHD's employees may be called to engage in emergency operations responses and recovery.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and four (4) years of experience in a health and/or social services work environment.
OR
Associate’s degree in Health, Social Services, or a related discipline and two (2) years of experience in a health and/or social services work environment.
OR
Bachelor’s degree in Health, Social Services, or a related discipline and experience in health and/or social services work environment.
All applicants must possess or obtain:
Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License at time of hire.
For WIC Program positions, certification as a Competent Professional Authority (CPA) by the WIC Program within three (3) months of hire,
with the exception of those applicants who possess a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition.
Preferences:
Nutrition: Professional Nutrition Educator, Bachelors in Nutritional Sciences, Community Nutrition, Public Health, or Home Economics
with emphasis in Nutrition or 4 years of Health/Nutrition experience.
Competent Professional Authority Certificate.
American Red Cross First Aide & CPR Certification within 90 days of hire

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160) and (AS 12.62.400). Accordingly, it will be necessary for the selected applicant to provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted. Fingerprint cards must be dated within 30 days from date requested. The processing fee of $47.00 plus the cost of being fingerprinted (variable) is the responsibility of the selected applicant and must be accomplished before beginning work.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's Alaska Driver's License, and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states, if the Alaska Driver's License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. All required certifications and/or licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
Military Service Interview Preference
Veterans who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs, recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows the full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization, and shows the name, signature, title, and contact information of the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
