Lateral Police Officers

Lateral officers are currently employed as a police officers, sheriff's deputies, or state police. They have enough experience with another agency to complete an expedited RPD training program. Although the amount of experience necessary may be subjective, the desired experience level will be assessed by Rochester Police to determine if lateral entry is appropriate. Lateral officer salary will be based on their individual experience, job knowledge, and level of skill.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must:

+ Possess a valid Minnesota Peace Officer license or be eligible to be MN POST licensed by their start/hire date
+ Possess a valid driver's license
+ Have prior experience as a licensed Minnesota police officer or qualify for reciprocity under MN POST rules with experience as a police officer in another state.

+ July 29 to September 7 – Job posting open for applications
+ September 16 or 17 – Initial interviews (virtual via Microsoft Teams) with preliminary assessment complete
+ September 30 or October 1 – Physical Testing and Phase II Interview with Hiring Team
+ Week of October 6 - Completed Backgrounds returned to Department, Assigned to Investigators by October 13
+ November 13 – Backgrounds approved and Applicants notified of Conditional offers
+ Week of December 8 – Medical and Psychological Assessments take place
+ Week of December 15 – Formal Offers extended
+ January 26 – New Lateral Officers begin employment
