    The Water Resources Laboratory at the Everglades Research and Education Center is looking to hire a Postdoctoral Associate for a 3-year appointment. This is a grant funded position that focuses on research and extension related to Best Management Practices (BMPs) to reduce phosphorus loads in the Everglades Agricultural Area farms in south Florida. The objective of this research is to determine differences in performance in select farms in the EAA basins by evaluating the impact of soil chemistry and historical land use on P concentration and loads on these farms. The project includes advanced statistical tools and modelling to evaluate the influence of soil properties, historical and current land use, and environmental conditions on water quality in select farms in the EAA.

     

    The successful candidate will work closely with lab personnel and collaborative farm managers on current research aimed at understanding factors impacting water quality on participating farms. Responsibilities include planning, coordinating, and participating in the sampling of water, soil, and sediment, as well as maintaining effective communication with diverse stakeholders.

    Key duties include:

    + Designing and implementing research and extension projects focused on verifying and improving BMPs to reduce phosphorus loads and enhance soil quality on both organic and sandy soils in southern Florida.

    + Conducting field trials and managing data collection, including sampling, instrumentation monitoring, and data analysis.

    + Preparing and disseminating research findings through reports, refereed publications, and extension materials.

    + Leading technology transfer efforts through workshops, farm visits, and other outreach activities.

    + Overseeing water sampling instrumentation and coordinating maintenance.

    + Assisting with laboratory analysis and QA/QC activities as needed.

     

    Grant sponsor is the Everglades Agricultural Area Environmental Protection District. The position is available September 1, 2025.

IFAS, one of the nation’s largest agricultural and natural resources research and education organizations, is administered by a Vice President and four deans: the Dean of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, the Dean for Extension and Director of the Florida Cooperative Extension Service, the Dean for Research and Director of the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station, and the Dean for the College of Veterinary Medicine. UF/IFAS also engages in cooperative work with Florida A&M University in Tallahassee.

    Required Qualifications:

    A PhD (foreign equivalent acceptable) in the field of Soil Science, Agronomy, Agriculture and Biological Engineering or a related field is required. Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system. Candidates must also have a commitment toUF core values (https://www.ufl.edu/about/core-values/) .

    Preferred:

    + Expertise in data analysis and statistics.

    + Demonstrate excellent communication skills and extension experience

    + A good publication and presentation record.

    + Laboratory and field experience in sampling and analyzing water and soil data.Knowledge and skill with basic computing in a Microsoft environment and statistical software.
