Summary You will serve as an Environmental Protection Specialist in the Public Works Department of NAV FACILITIES ENGINEERING COMMAND SE. Responsibilities You will inspect regulated waste containers at the Hazardous Waste Storage Facility (HWSF) or Environmental Service Waste Management Site (ESWMS) for structural integrity, accumulation dates, proper identification markings and transportability. You will physically transfer wastes from one container to another, or lab pack as required due to deteriorated containers or incompatible waste. You will perform environmental protection duties related to the management and disposal of regulated waste (I.e. Hazardous Waste, Universal Wastes, State Regulated Wastes, and other Regulated Solid Waste) You will perform weekly (every seven days) regulated inspections of the HWSF and any associated storage sites under the management of Enviromental Services personnel. You will use knowledge of basic operations and software to input waste tracking information, maintain waste operating records and run reports. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To be considered for the GS-09 position: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS 07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1. Storing, maintaining, disposing, labeling and marking hazardous materials and regulated wastes; 2) Characterizing regulated wastes as hazardous waste, nonhazardous waste, universal waste, regulated solid wastes and hazardous materials; 3) Collecting and maintaining representative waste samples as a part of a waste sampling plan; 4) Responding to hazardous substance spills or releases. 5) Must be certified or be capable of acquiring the certificate within the first 90 days of position assignment. 6) Knowledge of Environmental Rules and Regulations. To be considered for the GS-07 position: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS 05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:1) Storing, maintaining, disposing, labeling and marking hazardous materials and regulated wastes; 2) Assist in collecting and maintaining representative waste samples as a part of a waste sampling plan; and 3) Inspect regulated waste containers. 4) Knowledge of environmental rules and regulations.
