    Position Overview

    We are seeking a passionate and talented Postdoctoral Scholar for a joint appointment between Stanford PULSE Institute and the Chemical Sciences Department at the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS). The focus of the position is performing and supporting experimental research on the photochemistry of solution phase transition metal compounds. The experiments will be performed using X-ray scattering and spectroscopy in the hard and soft X-ray domains. The candidate will be embedded in the solution phase photochemistry group led by Amy Cordones-Hahn and Kelly Gaffney and the PULSE Institute as well as the Biology and Condensed Phase Chemistry group within the Chemical Sciences department at LCLS.

     

    Note** **: Research Associates at SLAC are a fixed term non-academic position. This is a 2-year fixed term position with the possibility of extension. Assignment duration is contingent upon project needs and funding.

     

    SLAC is a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) laboratory operated by Stanford University and based in Menlo Park, CA.

    Your specific responsibilities include:

    + **Perform and support ultrafast x-ray scattering/spectroscopy experiments at the LCLS**

    + **Collaborate with other scientists, postdocs, students, engineers, and technical staff at PULSE and LCLS to execute experiments**

    + **Disseminate research results through peer reviewed publications and presentations at scientific meetings and conferences**

    + **_Other duties may also be assigned_**

    To be successful in this position you will bring:

    + **Ph.D. in physics, mathematics, materials sciences, chemistry, or related fields.**

    + **Research background in the study of solution phase photochemistry and using ultrafast laser/x-ray techniques.**

    + **Exceptional communication skills and ability to work well in a research and development team.**

    + **Strong conceptual and problem-solving skills as well as the ability to identify and recommend solutions.**

    + **Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team environment.**

    + **Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse group of people**

    + **Excellent organizational skills and the ability to synthesize complex technical and scientific information.**

    + **In addition, preferred requirements include:**

    + **Programming skills with Python and data analysis software/tools.**

    + **X-ray scattering/spectroscopy experience preferred**

    The expected pay range for this position is $70,000 - $100,000 per annum. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
