O'Neal Steel currently has an opening for a Transportation Specialist at our Corporate office in Birmingham, AL.

The Transportation Specialist will schedule and route daily shipments to achieve the best customer service possible while maximizing the effectiveness of our delivery resources.

Responsibilities May Include But Are Not Limited To:

+ Schedule both customer and district deliveries daily.

+ Utilize routing software to determine most efficient delivery routes.

+ Identify over/under capacity issues and work with Sales Management and/or Supply Chain Management to resolve.

+ Manage a network of approved common carriers per location.

+ Work with common carriers when required to ship loads not able to be covered by our contracted 3rd Party Logistics (3PL).

+ Work with district Operations Management to ensure dispatch times align with capacity.

+ Utilize data management tools to identify continuous improvement opportunities such as load balancing volume, underutilized or inefficient use of resources, and expenses impacting district contribution margin.

+ Coordinate and schedule Mill pickups as needed.

+ Coordinate and schedule Return Authorization (RA) pickups as needed.

+ Work with 3PL as needed to ensure safe operation and achievable expectations.

+ Responsible for providing error-free work to all internal and external customers as related to the output of their position.

Desired Skills: The following skills are considered important to this position but may be learned on the job. Applicants will not be an eliminated from consideration if they do not possess these skills.

+ Proficient in Microsoft Suite, especially Outlook, Word, and Excel

+ Must be able to concentrate and maintain productivity in high pressure situations

+ Type 20 words per minute
