    About the Role

     

    We’re looking for a dedicated Laboratory Support Education Coordinator to join our team and help us continue delivering the level of care our patients and families deserve. In this role, you’ll be a vital part of our clinical & administrative team, ensuring excellent service, collaboration, and patient outcomes in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Under general supervision, the Laboratory Support Education Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that safety, specimen collection, accessioning, outreach scheduling and chain of custody training needs are met. You will plan and lead training for all areas relating to laboratory support and offsite specimen collection. As the Lab Support Ed Coordinator, you will ensure that staff performing laboratory support and specimen collection are current with training and competency requirements as well as provide up to date continuing education. You will develop specialized training in response to quality assurance reports.

     

    What You’ll Do

     

    + Lab Support: Performs all phases of phlebotomy for all age groups. Proficient to work independently in all phlebotomy services. Performs requisitioning, scheduling, registration and accessioning with a high degree of accuracy.

    + Training Development and Record Management : Works with laboratory leadership to act as a liaison with all Saratoga Hospital facilities, ensuring sufficient staff competence both presently and in the future by planning, developing, and organizing on the job training for laboratory support functions and specimen collection. Develops and modifies training and competency records as needed. Uses Healthstream and CAP to augment educational program. Maintains training and competency records for all support services staff, as well as offsite specimen collection staff through the CAP website or the hospital education program system according to regulatory requirements. Establishes and maintains Preceptor Program according to hospital procedure. Serves as primary administrator for affiliated education and training programs. Performs periodic audits of continuing education records.

    + Human Resource Management: Assures that lab support personnel are qualified, trained and competent to perform assigned functions according to their job descriptions. Responsible for performing staff mentoring, 6- month employee evaluations, and support including disciplinary action to laboratory employees displaying undesirable behaviors during training. Participates in interviews and hiring process.

    + Leadership: Provides oversite for all training activities working closely with the laboratory supervisors/managers and other laboratory support leaders to develop a training team and program that ensures consistency of services throughout the organization. Works with interdepartmental teams to improve processes and systems. Assists with updating policies/procedures and development of new policies/procedures for newly introduced services or processes. Responsible for Main Lab morning draw operations, and covers Inpatient/Outreach, in addition to Outpatient/Administration areas when needed.

    + Quality Assurance: Monitors quality of patient interaction, accessioning accuracy reporting, and indicators of specimen collection quality, and develops continuing education for laboratory staff and practice specimen collection staff with the goal of improving patient care. Assists in developing QA reports with designated LSSII staff. Serves on the Laboratory Quality Assurance Committee. Works with laboratory leadership to perform periodic updates of the Specimen Collection Guide

    + Safety: Operates and trains staff to use all safety devices according to guidelines and disposes appropriately. Maintains and assists with environmental cleanliness. Ability to effectively communicate the importance of compliance and safety to other employees. In conjunction with other laboratory leaders, oversees new employee safety training as well as Saratoga Hospital courier training. Serves on the Laboratory Safety committee, and is responsible for management of lab coats at the Main Lab. Serve on the hospital’s Emergency Preparedness Committee and assure that lab support personnel are trained on emergency response procedures.

    + Administrative: Provides assistance to management staff in coordinating meetings, as well as writing and distributing communications.

    + Chain of Custody Collections: Exhibit proficiency in urine drug screen collections, and breathe alcohol testing as a certified instructor, and provides training to laboratory staff ensuring a 24/7 coverage for employee collections and training. Sends required documentation to register newly trained staff as breath alcohol technicians.

    + Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care in alignment with Saratoga Hospital values

    + Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support health, healing, and service excellence

    + Perform clinical & administrative responsibilities with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency

    + Use hospital systems and tools to document care and support operations

    + Continuously seek opportunities to improve processes and support patient and staff satisfaction

    + Serve as a positive, professional representative of our hospital and community

     

    What You Bring

     

    + High school diploma or GED with at least 5 years of phlebotomy experience or an Associate’s Degree with at least 3 years of phlebotomy experience required; Bachelor's degree with 3 years of phlebotomy experience strongly preferred. Hospital laboratory experience preferred. Valid New York State driver's license required. Must be at least 21 years of age and approved to drive Saratoga Hospital vehicles for shifts requiring travel for offsite specimen collection.

    + Certified by ASCP, NHA or AMT

    + Mandatory 9 CEU supervisor approved credits per year

    + Strong communication and teamwork skills
